CHUMASH

Parshas Tazria - Shishi with Rashi

Today we are learning more about Tzoraas.

We learned that spots of tzoraas on a person’s head are called “Nesek.” But if a person is bald on the back of his head (Karachas) or on the front of his head (Gabachas), we follow the rules of the regular tzoraas spots (Nega) to see if the person is tomei.

Now we learn what a person does if the Kohen says that he is Tomei from Tzoraas:

The Metzora has to tear his clothes and not cut his hair, like an avel. He has to cover his face down to his mustache or top lip. He calls out “Tomei, tomei” to let everyone know to stay away from him, and not become tomei from him.

He has to go away from everyone else, outside of where the rest of the Yidden live.

Now we learn about Tzoraas on clothes:

If a person sees bright red or bright green spots on a piece of clothing, he needs to show them to the kohen. The kohen tells him to put the clothing away for a week, and then looks at it again. If the spot got bigger, it is Tzoraas and it needs to be burned!

If it didn’t get bigger, the person washes it and waits another week before the kohen checks again.

TEHILLIM

140 - 150

Because there are 29 days in Chodesh Adar Sheini, we say ALL of the rest of the Tehillim today! (If there were 30 days, we would say part today and part tomorrow.)

In one of today’s Kapitelach is a posuk we all know very well, because we say it every day at the end of davening! “Ach Tzadikim Yodu Lishmecha!” Do you know what it means?

TANYA

Likutei Amarim Perek Lamed-Tes

The world of Atzilus is a Ruchnius’dike place where nothing can be felt except for Hashem.

That’s why Atzilus is the “home” for neshamos of great tzadikim, who feel that nothing exists except for Hashem alone. An example of these tzadikim is the Avos. The Chachomim say about the Avos that throughout their lives, there was not even one second (even when they were sleeping!) that anything else existed for them, besides for Hashem and what Hashem wants.

HAYOM YOM

Chof-Tes Adar Sheini

The Rebbe Rashab said at a farbrengen:

Hashem created the world “Yeish Me’ayin” — something out of nothing!

The Avodah of a Yid is to change it around — we need to make “something into nothing (Me’Yeish Le’Ayin)!”

We need to take the world, that is called Yeish, because it is Gashmius; and make it into Ayin, which means Ruchnius. We do this by using the Gashmius to help us with Ruchnius and Avodas Hashem!

This is an avodah that EVERY Yid needs to do.

SEFER HAMITZVOS

Shiur #292 - Mitzvas Lo Saasei #219, Asei #245

Today we learn the last perek about workers, and we’ll start a new set of halachos — the halachos of borrowing.

We have two mitzvos today in Sefer Hamitzvos:

1) (Mitzvas Lo Saasei #219) You can’t stop an animal from eating while it’s working.

We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Ki Seitzei: לֹא תַחְסֹם שׁוֹר בְּדִישׁוֹ

Even though the posuk only talks about a cow which is plowing a field, the mitzvah is for any animal and for any kind of work.

The dinim of this mitzvah are explained in Perek Zayin of Mesechta Bava Metziah.

2) (Mitzvas Asei #245) If someone borrows something, he needs to follow the halachos of a borrower, a shoel.

We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Mishpatim: וְכִי יִשְׁאַל אִישׁ מֵעִם רֵעֵהוּ

The halachos are explained in Perek Ches of Mesechta Bava Metziah, and Perek Ches of Mesechta Shevuos.

RAMBAM

Hilchos Sechirus - She'eilah Upikadon

In Perek Yud-Gimmel, we learn more about today’s mitzvos: When an animal is working, we need to let it eat whatever it’s working on. We can’t cover its mouth, or scare it so it won’t eat. But if it’s working on something that will make the animal sick, we can cover the animal’s mouth — because this mitzvah is there to make the animal feel good. Eating something that will make it sick WON’T make the animal feel good, so we are allowed to stop it from eating!

We also start learning halachos about borrowing, Hilchos She’eilah Upikadon:

Perek Alef talks about your responsibilities if you borrow something. One halacha is that if you ask your friend, “Can I borrow your pencil to do my homework?” — then you can’t use the pencil for anything else.

If the pencil breaks while you’re doing your homework, you don’t need to get him a new pencil, but if it breaks while you are carrying it home, you DO need to get him a new pencil.

In Perek Beis we learn that when the owner is working together with the person who borrowed something from him, it’s not counted as borrowing according to halacha. So if you are working on a poster with your friend, and you borrow your friend’s markers since you forgot to bring yours, you don’t have to pay him back even if you stepped on one of the markers and broke it.

If a husband and wife borrow something from each other, it is ALWAYS counted like they are working together! So if your Mommy borrowed Tatty’s hammer and broke it, she doesn’t have to buy him a new one.

RAMBAM PEREK ECHOD

Hilchos Tumas Tzoraas - Perek Yud-Alef

Now we learn the halachos about the first step for a Metzora to become Tahor. We learn about the water and the plants that are used, and what happens if the bird that was shechted is Treif, or the blood got spilled by mistake. We also learn about the second step, where he waits seven days and then goes to the Beis Hamikdash to get shaved and bring his korban.

INYANA D'YOMA

Simcha!

On the last day of Chodesh Adar, there needs to be a tremendous simcha!

During the whole Chodesh Adar (and this year, during TWO months of Adar), we were constantly growing in simcha, Marbim Besimcha! Now we are at the highest part, the day of the MOST simcha!

All of this simcha during Adar gives us the koach to bring Moshiach in Chodesh Nisan! Nisan is an especially good time for Geulah, since it was also the month when we had the Geulah from Mitzrayim.

The Chachomim tell us that in Nisan we were freed from the first Golus, and in Nisan we will also be freed from this last Golus! “Benisan Nigalu, Uv’Nisin Asidin Lehiga’el!”

It is the simcha of Chodesh Adar, and especially this last day, that breaks through the rest of Golus and will bring the Geulah with Moshiach Tzidkeinu Bekarov Mamosh!

TEFILLAH

A Meeting With the King

Imagine seeing two people hurrying down the street. Both of them are dressed in suits and ties and are carrying briefcases. You might think that they are both the same, right?

But one of them is late to work, and feeling very worried. The other one just walked out of a meeting with the king! The king asked him to do a very important mission, and gave him a credit card so he can get whatever he needs to make it happen. You can imagine that these two men feel very different!

Every morning, we have a choice about how we want to run our day. Do we want to just be rushing from place to place, or do we want to feel like the second man, proud and excited to do our mission?

When we daven every morning, we are having a private meeting with Hashem! Hashem gives us a special shlichus to do in the world, and gives us brachos and kochos to get whatever we need to make it happen! Only after we daven do we have the kochos of the King of all Kings, Melech Malchei Hamelochim, Hakadosh Baruch Hu, to go do our shlichus throughout the day with simcha!

HALACHOS HATZRICHOS

Yom Kippur Katan

Erev Rosh Chodesh is called “Yom Kippur Katan,” the “little Yom Kippur.”

Yom Kippur is the time when we do teshuvah and Hashem forgives us for our aveiros. Before Rosh Chodesh we make a Cheshbon Hanefesh (self-audit) of our behavior over the past month. We ask Hashem to forgive us for whatever we didn’t do so well, and we have a fresh start for the new month!

(It was the Rebbe’s minhag to go to the Ohel every Erev Rosh Chodesh.)

The Rebbe teaches that we should add in Torah, Avodah, and Gemilus Chasadim on this day.

GEULAH U'MOSHIACH

The End Will Be Good

In the end of Perek Beis of Micha, the Navi tells us what will happen in the time of Moshiach!

Asof E’esof Yaakov Kulach — Hashem says to the Yidden, “I will surely gather together all of you!

Kabeitz Akabeitz She’eiris Yisrael — “I will surely gather the remaining Yidden.

Yachad Asimenu Ketzon Batzra — “I will make them like sheep surrounded by a fence.

K’eder Besoch Hadavro Tehimena Mei’adam — “The place I will bring them to (Eretz Yisrael) will be as noisy as a stall of sheep!”

Hashem tells Yidden through the Navi that even though we will have gone through a hard Golus, in the end Hashem will bring us all back to Eretz Yisrael, and we will be protected and happy!
