CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Exploring the Evolving Career and Technical Education Landscape in Oregon High Schools

Oregon has significantly expanded its career and technical education (CTE) programming to ensure students graduate high school with the skills they need to succeed in life and work. Our new study describes student participation in CTE and outcomes such as graduation rates over a 10-year period. The findings provide important baseline information that CTE leaders can use to close equity gaps and scale evidence-based innovations across the state. Check out our infographic and blog post to learn more.

SCHOOL DISCIPLINE

Associations Between State-Level Policy Reforms and Exclusionary Discipline Rates

Our latest report examines the association between state-level policies and suspension and expulsion rates in Oregon’s public schools. The study found that although changes in state law led to short-term reductions in out-of-school suspensions and expulsions, within a few years many discipline actions reverted to pre-policy trends. These findings suggest that monitoring and support are still needed to improve progress toward statewide equity goals. Download the report to learn more.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Leveraging Teacher Voice to Promote Teachers’ Social and Emotional Learning

In case you missed it, the webinar REL Northwest recently held with REL Pacific is now available. Hear from our colleague Sarah Pierce and others in the field about how supporting teacher social and emotional learning (SEL) can impact student and teacher success. Learn research-based, promising practices for implementing teacher voice strategies in schools and districts to support teacher SEL. Watch the webinar recording on the IES YouTube channel.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

What Do We Know About Online Professional Learning Communities?

Did you know you can submit a research question, and our Ask A REL librarian will compile a list of recent, publicly available references and resources? For example, a stakeholder recently asked how professional learning communities can maintain and sustain high-quality professional development throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Find out what the research says about this topic.
