We all know the pandemic has disproportionately impacted Black and Brown people and families: For the youth and families we serve, these challenges are compounded.
Parents with children in foster care saw the abrupt cancellation of in-person visits with their children, and their relationships reduced to time on a small screen, a few times a week, if they were lucky.
Young people were incarcerated in congregate settings where the virus was nearly impossible to contain.
Some of our clients saw the City accuse them of neglect once again, for ‘repeated absences’ when their children just couldn’t connect.
Many clients lost part-time work, and many saw critical services they relied on, like counseling, just stopped.
Despite these enormous challenges, we continue to be inspired by the resilience & innovation of our clients and staff.
We all have so few guarantees, but with your help, we can guarantee our clients that we’ll partner with them to keep their families together, no matter the times and no matter the challenge.
Make the holidays as happy as you can and above all, please stay safe.
In gratitude,
Michele Cortese
Executive Director
