The Eye of the Self
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

One can appreciate Yoga, and be a yogi, without disturbing one’s own faith. There are Yoga centers all over the world. Often, students begin with Hatha Yoga, the physical side. Gradually, when they understand the true essence of Yoga, they want to go more deeply into it so they learn more subtle techniques. Very soon, we will see that Yoga is uniting the entire world, because that is Yoga; that is its aim. The very name “Yoga” means “to unite.” This sort of union is found in almost all the wisdom traditions...  MORE

Silence and Belonging
By Br. David Steindl-Rast

Due to the pandemic, i’m still in Argentina, enjoying summer. Grateful though i am to be in good health and with very dear friends, it does feel strange to celebrate Advent, this time of waiting, without winter weather. When the usual trimmings are missing, however, it’s easier to see the essentials. As i see it, the essence of Advent is silence. Is not at the very core of this time of year, celebrated by many traditions as a sacred season, a hushed stillness?  MORE

Angie A created a visual to accompany Kitty O'Meara's poem "And the People Stayed Home." Angie noted: Her poem inspired me to create this film of how I and the people I've been quarantined with have learned to slow down a little and appreciate life. Maybe there is something good that can come from this time. Whether it be to slow down, learn a new skill, get in touch with our body's, get in touch with ourselves or get in touch with the earth.

The undertow on the Jersey shore can be quite dangerous.... As a young girl, I would charge into the waves. 2020 has reminded me of those beach days—only it’s not fun.... I am comforted by the words of the late great Ruth Bader Ginsberg, “We are not experiencing the best of times, yet I am optimistic in the long run. A great man once said that the true symbol of the United States is not the bald eagle. It is the pendulum. And when the pendulum swings too far in one direction, it will go back.”  MORE

The Christmas Magic of Long Ago
By Rev. Dhyani Simonini

I sit looking at my Christmas tree, which for the first time since I moved to Yogaville (several decades ago!) was not decorated by the swamis who live here. It was a strange and sad experience doing it myself.... I think of my first Yogaville Christmas — magic in more ways than the happy time of inviting all the monks to come to a big Christmas dessert buffet and to decorate the tree. I had invited Sri Gurudev Swami Satchidananda as well.  MORE

This inspiring short film explores the growth of  two men—father and son—through different stages of their lives, and how the thread woven between them, the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, brought them back the most important place of all. Winner of the Most Inspirational Film award at the 2015 5Point Film Festival, this film will remind and inspire you to revere and cherish The Important Places in each and every one of us.
