Green Built Guide: January 2021

New in 2021: Green Built Alliance Launching  Regenerative Professional Accreditation in Tandem with Green Built Homes Updates

As codes have changed and technologies have advanced in the two decades since our inception in 2001, Green Built Alliance has continually evolved to encourage positive changes in the building industry and highlight opportunities to advance sustainability.

With our nonprofit now celebrating its 20th anniversary, 2021 promises to be an exciting year for our community. The beginning of this year marked the official rollout of the new version of our Green Built Homes certification program. All projects registered from Jan. 1 forward will use the updated checklist. (Email Program Director Maggie Leslie or your Home Energy Rater with questions!)

And, to support our builders in deepening their knowledge as well as increasing participation in our new Regenerative and Net-Zero Water certifications, our nonprofit is introducing the Regenerative Professional Accreditation credential that acknowledges a deep, evolving competency in advanced green-building best practices.

Watch for the February newsletter for the release of our schedule for the first half of this year of continuing-education courses, including a variety of classes eligible for credit as part of the RPA curriculum.

Blue Horizons Project Leading Community Solarize Campaign Coming This Spring

Our Blue Horizons Project program is leading this spring's rollout of the long-awaited Asheville-Buncombe Solarize campaign. This group-purchasing program has empowered cities and counties nationwide to make solar more affordable for everyday people.

Solarize campaigns harness the power of the crowd to save some major green while residences and businesses go green; the more community members that participate, the greater the savings!

As part of the campaign, organizers will seek competitive bids from the local solar community to ensure best-in-class materials are installed by qualified solar professionals for the lowest price.

Based on community feedback, the campaign will prioritize a deeply discounted option for low- to moderate-income households, as well as an educational component to provide workforce development in renewable-energy technologies. The request for proposals from solar companies will be issued Feb. 1, and the campaign will officially begin recruiting participants in April!

  • Residents interested in participating can preregister for a free property assessment on the campaign website
  • Solar-installation companies interested in learning more about the RFP can email questions to admin@solarizeabc.com
Stay tuned to our February newsletter for updates on this process!
