Unhealthy Habits Will Quit You

You don’t need to quit smoking—smoking will quit you if you keep practicing Hatha Yoga, asanas and pranayama! Many people have been helped to lose drug addictions and even other unhealthy habits through regular Yoga practice.

Three Important Things in Life
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

It is not what you do that is so important. What is more important, is why you are doing anything. We must ask ourselves, What is there to gain by doing something? Remember, you are God’s image. So, you must have all the qualities of God, such as purity, love, and happiness, because you are divine. But some sort of ignorance has created a veil and made us feel that we are limited, little, or finite. We have forgotten our true nature. Many of us will ask, “How am I to know that I am God?”  MORE

In this video, Deepak Chopra, MD talks with Yoga scholar/practitioner Hareesh Wallis about the 1,000 year-old tradition of Nondual Saiva Tantra. Dr. Wallis is asked to explain the essence of mantra and yantra, considered "pre-modern technologies," which give us direct access to Divine Consciousness. A fascinating and illuminating discussion of this ancient tradition which forms the foundation of the unity consciousness teachings of Swami Satchidananda.

A Yoga Doctor Looks Back
With Sandra Amrita McLanahan, MD

Several years ago, Sandra Amrita McLanahan, MD was asked the question: “What did you learn from Swami Satchidananda?”
It’s very difficult to summarize almost 50 years of studying with him. So much of what I do in medicine I learned from him. He said that western medicine is a very young science. It’s actually only 200 or so years old. But the cobra pose is always the same cobra pose. The shoulder stand is always the same shoulder stand—the basics stay the same, as does wisdom.

On May 26, 2021, we have the first eclipse in a series with the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius. The second will follow on June 11 in its opposite sign, Gemini. Eclipses come in pairs, one Lunar and one Solar, both with different energetic objectives for our lives, but both coming around like clockwork to help us course correct. Eclipses are a relatively normal phenomenon and 2021 gives us two sets. (Includes Swami Satchidananda's advice on prepping for an eclipse).  MORE

In this short video from 2015, CBS This Morning interviewed pop artist icon Peter Max. This past week, Peter Max Studio sent out a promo for his beautiful artwork and they highlighted Max's relationship with Swami Satchidananda (Max's Guru) and the influence on his art. As they noted: “Through the Swami’s teachings on Yoga and meditation, Max acquired a powerful focus that changed his art dramatically.”  Find more on Max's art and biography here.

In Remembrance of Mitra Crane
By Rev. Lakshmi Barsel, Ph.D.

Mitra Crane, (longtime Integral Yogi and teacher training staff member) passed away in April 2021, after a serious fall. For 20 years, he and his wife Ambha returned to Yogaville every summer to serve at the teacher training programs. He was the first one to open the doors every morning before meditation after putting the classrooms in order. He would also clean out forgotten areas, fix sticky windows and doors, and drive the van of teacher trainees to and from LOTUS for noon meditation.  MORE

This recording is a rare and special gift. It is the voice of Sri Swami Satchidananda, singing chants and prayers in the Sanskrit, Tamil, and English languages, including from the Bhagavad Gita. Recorded in Los Angeles in 1980, with a small group of students joining with rhythm instruments and responsive chanting. These "Songs of Grace" are a means to opening the heart. Instant digital download comes with link to the Tamil songs with English translation. Listen to sample tracks and purchase here.
