Behind the Numbers

Elliot Levin, PRG President & Founder

PRG’s recent survey of the nonprofit sector is full of valuable, relevant statistics. 75% of agencies experienced a COVID-generated giving surge. 48% saw an increase in their number of major donors. 70% say that virtual events are here to stay. 92% of agencies report that DEI is a priority for their organizations. And there are many, many more numbers.

But numbers tell a bigger story. Agencies upon which thousands of people rely are weathering an unspeakable storm. Donors across the giving spectrum got the message and stepped-up to help keep our agencies intact. What has made that possible? We believe that gifts are not so much an exchange of money as they are an exchange of values, fueled by relationships. And what makes a relationship? Telling one’s story. Honesty about life’s challenges. Asking for help. Gratitude.

We in the fundraising profession have a buzzword for relationship-building – stewardship. That’s what’s truly behind the numbers.
Contemplating a New or Revived Capital Campaign? Timing is Everything.

Most understand that we are not out of the woods yet until we know just how effective our vaccines are. So, while people crave to embrace better times are here, uncertainty over the next 4 – 6 months is critical to watch.
