Learning From Paradise
Hey CD11,

We wrapped up the month with a focus on better managing our Westside curb space and other measures to maintain safety access along our roadways. We also addressed some ongoing encampment problems, including at Penmar Park and the West LA freeway underpasses.

In Council, we passed resolutions I introduced supporting State legislation against corporate buyouts in fire-damaged areas, allowing our focus to remain on helping families rebuild their homes, and calling for legal changes to mandate evacuation impact studies before approving large housing projects in high fire severity zones – so evacuations don't turn into gridlock like they did in the Palisades. The Council also approved my plan to rehire experienced retired workers and streamline hiring for key recovery jobs so we can get the work done even faster.

I also visited with leaders of the Town of Paradise, California, to learn about the successes and challenges of their rebuilding efforts following the devastating Camp Fire in 2018. They shared best practices and lessons learned, and we are incredibly grateful to all the help they lent CD11 in preparing our package of recovery motions.

My focus always remains on making our district safer and stronger. We have a lot to do, but we are determined to get it done!

LADWP Launches Water Quality Dashboard for Palisades
Water service has been fully restored in the 729 and 310 service zones, a significant step forward in ensuring safe access for all residents. LADWP has launched an interactive Water Quality Restoration Dashboard for residents affected by the “Do Not Drink” notice, offering updates on restoration progress and water quality testing. The dashboard includes an interactive map, flushing status, and preliminary test results, while LADWP works with state regulators to ensure the water meets safety standards. We are pleased to see the progress and look forward to having more neighborhoods fully restored soon!

This week's Park's Pick is Twin Tacos in Venice! I stopped by to meet with owner Jody Terrell and check out the great food I've been hearing about all over town. As one of Venice’s newest small businesses, Twin Tacos is already making its mark on the Westside’s food scene. Don't miss the Lobster and Mushroom tacos (and I personally love the watermelon Lemonade!). Welcome to the neighborhood, Twin Tacos!
