This week, I had the honor of welcoming the Fall 2024 cohort of the LEE 12 Excellence in Leadership Program to City Hall. Students had the opportunity to attend a City Council meeting and explore City Hall for the first time, gaining valuable, firsthand insight into the workings of local government. This program is dedicated to developing the leaders of tomorrow, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to drive meaningful change in their communities.

I’m excited to see where these bright and motivated students will go in their future endeavors!

As we do every year, my staff and I mobilized alongside community volunteers for the 2025 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help count- your efforts are invaluable in helping us gather the information needed to secure the resources necessary to assist unhoused individuals in our community.

Neighborhood Councils Elections

88 of Los Angeles’ 99 Neighborhood Councils are having elections this season, including Granada Hills North NC, Granada Hills South NC, Northridge East NC, Northridge West NC, North Hills West NC, Porter Ranch NC, and West Hills NC. All Neighborhood Council elections will be vote by mail and held on different dates through June 2025.

For all the neighborhood councils listed, except West Hills, the last day to file your candidacy is March 3!

Relief Grants Available for Small Businesses & Workers Impacted by Wildfires

To aid in the financial recovery of small businesses and displaced workers affected by the wildfires, the City of LA, in collaboration with LA County DEO, have launched the LA Region Small Business and Worker Relief Funds. Through these funds, eligible small businesses and nonprofits can receive up to $25K in grants. Eligible displaced workers can obtain $2K in cash assistance.

Grant applications are now open and will close February 24, 2025 at 5:00 PM. Impacted small business owners and workers residing in the City of LA can receive application assistance through the WorkSource and BusinessSource Centers.

Philanthropic contributions are also being accepted towards the relief effort. To contribute funds, visit lacounty.gov/relief.

Mobility Plan 2035 Community Feedback

Measure HLA was approved by City of Los Angeles voters on March 5, 2024. It requires the City to implement street modifications outlined in Mobility Plan 2035 any time a street improvement, at least one-eighth of a mile long, is made on a street segment that is on the Enhanced Complete Street System, as defined in the ordinance.

To help guide the City's implementation of Measure HLA, the City Planning Department has drafted a table that presents Standard Elements that are reasonably expected to be included in a Mobility Plan Project. The public is being invited to comment on the draft "HLA Standard Elements Table" until March 2, 2025. After public comment is closed, staff will review feedback, consider changes, then present recommendations to the Street Standards Committee in April.

The City’s Economic Workforce and Development Department continues to share economic and social service resources available to impacted businesses and workers in Los Angeles.

LA Youth Count New Dates

The LA Youth Count is ongoing now, from February 19 - 28. The LA Youth Count is looking for volunteers to help count unsheltered youth in LA County. A successful youth count gets us closer to ending Youth Homelessness in LA. The count depends on our participation. Data from the count informs services and program funding.
