Councilwoman Park Hosts Tom Wolf In Venice Beach
It was great to host my friend Tom Wolf in Venice. A formerly-homeless, recovering addict from the Tenderloin District in San Francisco, Tom spent time in jail before entering in-patient treatment and finding recovery. Tom has been influential in policy debates around harm reduction, housing first, and the role of courts in addressing homelessness and addiction. I had the chance to walk with him in San Francisco last fall to see the progress there, so it was great to show him the work we've done on the Westside.
Brentwood Hosts LAPD Roll Call
On Wednesday, LAPD’s West LA Division held its morning roll call in Brentwood. We are so grateful for the increased presence of patrol officers on the Westside and the chance for residents to get acquainted with our local police officers. Thank you to the Brentwood HOA for organizing and hosting roll call!
I was proud to nominate Elisa James as my 2024 Good Food Champion on National Food Day! Through FoodCycle LA, Elisa reduces the 4,000 tons of food waste generated daily in LA County by connecting volunteers with food donors to increase access to healthy meals for those in need. Additionally, her efforts with the Abbot Kinney Merchants Association enhances business engagement in Venice and her commitment to food justice makes her a champion for a healthier, more sustainable, and connected community.
Pacific Palisades Community Dog Park Meeting
I'm so excited for the new dog park at Temescal Canyon that I personally dropped by our community meeting with RAP in the Palisades to talk about our plans. Congratulations again to everyone who make this long-overdue community project happen! If you would like to learn more, please contact my Pacific Palisades Deputy Michael Amster at michael.amster@lacity.org
Come Celebrate 15 Years Of The Venice Skate Park!
Come out to Venice on Saturday, October 26, from 10am to 4pm to celebrate 15 years of LA's most iconic skate park, testament to Venice's proud cultural heritage as the birthplace of skateboarding. A big shout out to local skate legend, Jesse Martinez, who fought for two decades to bring this park to Venice. Check out Venice Paparazzi's awesome gallery of the grand-opening back in 2009.
Come Out To Del Rey Day On Sunday!
We are stoked to join the Del Rey Neighborhood Council for Del Rey Day on Sunday, October 27, from 11am to 4pm at Bill Rosendahl Park. There will be activities for the entire family, a t-shirt tie-dye station, an annual spelling bee, and great food from local vendors. See you there!
Playa del Rey Farmer's Market
Join the Woman's Club of Playa del Rey on Saturday, November 2, at 10 am for their Fourth Annual Farmer's Market. This local charity event showcases handmade crafts by local artisans, live music, and great food. The event runs from 10 am - 3 pm at 8039 Manchester Avenue in Playa del Rey and will generally support the Club's Scholarship Fund for local women and girls.
George Wolfberg Park Wins Architectural Award
I’m thrilled to share that George Wolfberg Park at Potrero Canyon has received the Chairman’s Award at the 54th LA ArchitecturalAwards! This 46-acre park, a result of decades of community advocacy, now offers scenic trails and a restored natural habitat in the Palisades. It’s a true example of design enhancing public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Hazardous Palisades Tree Trimmed
A few weeks ago, my staff received outreach from a family in the Pacific Palisades who direly needed help. The eucalyptus tree next to their home has regularly dropped heavy branches, some nearly landing on people. They asked our office for help in having the Urban Forestry Division trim the tree, and earlier this week, we got it done.
Protecting Revello Drive Ahead Of Storms
On Thursday, Team CD11 partnered with the Bureau of Engineering to place sandbags along Revello and Castellammare in the Pacific Palisades. As we prepare for our rainy, these sandbags will help prevent flood damage. A huge thank you to our deputies Michael, Sean, and Trey for their help filling and transporting the sandbags for our friends in the Palisades.
Every week, your CD11 Beautification Team and our City Departments are working all over the Westside to make improvements, big and small. If an area in your neighborhood needs special attention, please contact our Westchester District Office for assistance.
My Park's Pick this week is Hume, a brand new wellness club in Venice at Windward Circle. This exquisitely designed, state of the art fitness club and spa offers group classes, body therapy, and a social lounge and coffee bar. But most importantly, Hume embraces true community engagement and neighborhood investment. We are so excited to see this business to come to life!
