Investing In Parks And Green Spaces On The Westside

This year, we’ve made huge strides to improve our parks across CD11. From the grand reopening of Bill Rosendahl Park’s dog park in Del Rey to new fields and courts in Mar Vista and Westchester, it’s all about creating spaces where our communities can come together. We’ve successfully secured funds for these projects, ensuring these spaces continue to grow and thrive. I’m excited for the opportunities they’ll bring to families, athletes, and neighbors in the years ahead!

Check Out What We've Done So Far
Chief McDonnell Takes The Helm At LAPD
It's a new day in Los Angeles! This week, we turned the reigns at LAPD over to its 59th Chief, Jim McDonnell. It was a pleasure to join our new District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, and other local leaders in celebrating Chief McDonnell's return to the LAPD. I look forward to working with our new partners in building a safer future for all Angelenos.

New Housing At The West Los Angeles VA Campus

We are working hard to advance smart affordable housing projects across the Westside, but I'm especially proud of the work we've done to support our veterans at the VA campus in West Los Angeles. We've opened hundreds of new permanent housing units, ensuring that our veterans have access to the housing and care they deserve. This week, we opened 74 new homes at MacArthur Field A, and we have even more on the way!

Transforming Lives at New Directions For Veterans

On Friday, I had the honor of joining Mayor Karen Bass for a tour of New Directions for Veterans on the West LA VA campus. New Directions is doing life-changing work, providing veterans with the tools and support they need to rebuild their lives—from housing and job placement to counseling and financial education. Seeing their impact firsthand was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we invest in our veterans and their future.

Checking In With LAFD

We spent time time this week visiting our friends at LAFD stations across CD11 to share our gratitude and learn how we can be of more support. Many of our firefighters were deployed to assist with the Palisades fire on Wednesday, so we dropped off pizzas and pies just to say thanks. And, following up on the work we are already doing with CalTrans to address the encampments and overgrown vegetation along the 90 Freeway, we spent time with the team at Fire Station 67 in Playa Vista to assess numerous fire and safety risks in the Ballona Creek area. We appreciate their partnership and support in keeping our neighborhoods safe!

Del Rey Spirit At Greene Avenue Block Party
Team CD11 had a blast at the annual Greene Avenue Block Party in Del Rey! Folks were in great spirits, enjoying good food, music, and the chance to mingle with neighbors. We absolutely love seeing the community spirit! A big thank you to the community and organizers for hosting such a successful event—it’s gatherings like these that make our neighborhoods special.
CD11 Second Annual Veterans Resource Fair
We are so excited to hold our second annual resource fair for our veterans on December 5th at New Directions for Veterans at the West Los Angeles VA campus! Last year, we helped hundreds of local veterans connect with services and resources, like career training and legal clinics. We can't wait to do it all again next month!

This week's Park Pick goes to Colony, Venice's new smart kitchen, which finally opened at 401 Lincoln Boulevard! This incredible new space brings lots of local eateries together under one roof, including Crumbl, Goop Kitchen, Muy Thai, Good Steak, Kakkoi, and many others. This easy walk-in provides great grab and go options, or you can dine in the beautifully renovated space. This endeavor activates a neighborhood once blighted with encampments and crime and helps fulfill my commitment to supporting local businesses. Congrats, and welcome to Venice!
