| | This has been a difficult and heartbreaking week for Los Angeles.
My prayers are with all of those who suffered losses and were impacted by these devastating events. Our first responders continue working around the clock to make progress on the fires across the region and provide support to the thousands of people who have been impacted by these catastrophes. I am deeply grateful to everyone who is on the frontlines and fighting for our residents and our city.
Since Tuesday, three fires- Hurst, Kenneth and Archer- have broken out in or near Council District 12. Thanks to the quick action of the Los Angeles Fire Department and supporting agencies, those incidents are presently under control.
While we are not out of the woods yet, the LAFD has continued to demonstrate why they are the best fire department in the country, successfully battling all fires across the city in extreme conditions. With that said, the city and region are experiencing devastation of historic proportions, and will require a response of a similar magnitude.
As the new Chair of the City’s Committee on Public Safety, it is my responsibility to ensure that we analyze what worked and what didn’t, and I want to assure everyone that we will do just that. Today, and in the coming days, we remain focused on ending these wildfires and supporting the communities that have been impacted.
I also want to thank the hundreds of City crews who have been working tirelessly throughout the windstorms to restore power, address downed trees, direct traffic, and restore traffic signals in our communities.
For up-to-date information, visit lafd.org/alerts and follow our Facebook and Instagram feeds.
Thank you to the residents of Los Angeles and Council District 12 for your continued vigilance, patience, and heeding of warnings and alerts. |

| | Smoke and Poor Air Quality Safety TipsThe South Coast AQMD has issued a smoke advisory due to the multiple wildfires burning in the LA County area. Wildfire smoke can cause unhealthy air quality in areas many miles away from the fire, and smoke conditions change quickly. People with pre-existing health conditions (such as heart disease and asthma), older adults, young children, and pregnant women may be especially sensitive to health risks from wildfire smoke and the poor air quality that lingers long after the fires are put out.
Know the air quality in your area with AirNow and these South Coast AQMD resources to protect your health, as well as additional wildfire smoke resources available in 12 languages from Listos California. |
