Click Here For The Latest Palisades Rainstorm Update

Dear Friend,

With rain expected over the next 48 hours, here is the latest you need to know to stay safe and informed.

Starting this evening, January 25, rain is expected in the Palisades burn area. According to the Incident Command meteorologist, there will be several pulses of showers and precipitation they believe will be below critical thresholds for debris and mudflows.

The risk, however, increases starting Sunday at 4pm and until Monday at 4pm. During this period, a flood watch has been issued due to potential thunderstorm activity, which has a 25% chance of hitting the burn areas. The amount of rain during a thunderstorm could lead to debris and mudflows.

Workers have identified areas at higher risk for water and debris flow and are installing sandbags and hundreds of feet of K-rails to help mitigate in these areas and protect life, safety, and property during the next 48 hours. Crews have also inspected and removed debris from many gutters, storm drains and catch basins, I've been on the ground at the Zuma Command Post and in the burn area with our City crews to observe the temporary emergency measures that are being implemented to protect life, safety and property during the next 48 hours.

In addition to our City’s preparations, you can prepare for the rains by doing the following:
