“Find the peace within and then you can easily help in bringing peace to others. Without inner peace, if we go out in the name of bringing peace, we will be adding more to the peaceless situations. Even to understand a situation, even to find out ways and means to help someone, you should have a peaceful mind. If you are going to get upset over a situation and then you come out saying that, ‘I am going to help,’ your help will not be a useful help.” –Swami Satchidananda
October 7th is annual Integral Yoga Day! This article by Integral Yoga's founder, reminds us of why we're so grateful for Yoga!
Keeping the right attitude will make everything Yoga. How to cultivate the right attitude? By asking yourself: Will I disturb my ease by doing this? If the answer is yes, then stay away from that. There are many things that can disturb our peace and ease. And that is the reason we try to keep some discipline, such as staying away from certain types of food, from smoking, from liquor, from over-straining our senses by overindulging. We don’t deny the right kind of enjoyment...MORE
This video features special guests Swami Sarvapriyananda (spiritual director, Vedanta Society of New York) and Michael James (a translator of Sri Ramana Tamil writings). They discuss the essence of Advaita Vedanta and Sri Ramana's teachings, and how to put these teachings into practice. Their discussion brought deep insights about the true core of Advaita and the practice Sri Ramana gave to eliminate the egoic self, which seems to exist if not investigated.
It seems like any birthday that ushers us into a new decade brings with it a whole spectrum of feelings, and that is what happened for me recently. Turning 70 gave rise to that culturally influenced feeling, “OMG! I’m getting old.” But I’m grateful that I also found it easy to ignore that thinking by marveling how I feel so much the same. Isn’t it true that in some core place inside, we sense something, maybe just vaguely, that is unchanging even as we acknowledge the passing of time. MORE
My dog Ranger’s rear leg kicked then he exhaled his final breath. I smoothed his tan and black muzzle for the last time. Bone cancer had arrived with terrifying swiftness. A sudden lameness had revealed the insidious way the cancer had secretly been eating his bones. Ranger had always used his strength and determination to protect me; the only way I could reconcile his immediate euthanasia was to obey the command that now it was my job to protect him. MORE
The Bhagavad Gita is a yogic source of ancient, universal knowledge, which reveals a practical process for awakening through this multifaceted system of Yoga. But those sincere ones who have the humility to acknowledge that they don’t know, have taken a critical step in being ready to receive the Divine Song. MORE
According to the Mandukya Upanishad, the entire world of the waking state is expressed by ‘a,’ the first matra of OM. The entire dream world is expressed by ‘u,’ and the experience of deep sleep is expressed by ‘m.’ However, the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states together form the entire universe, and the symbols for these states are ‘a,’ ‘u,’ and ‘m.’ Therefore, OM itself is an incredibly wonderful symbol of God. OM is also the symbol of the attributes of God.MORE
