I Stand With Israel
Last weekend, we all woke to the horrific news and images of the terrorist attacks in Israel. There is no excuse or justification for this highly coordinated attack on innocent civilians, many of whom were women and children. Over the last week, I’ve spoken to dozens of Jewish leaders and families in CD11 and beyond. They are scared and grieving and need our solidarity and support more than ever.

From offensive fliers, banners and vandalism materials to the recent Pico-Robertson shootings, we've seen escalating acts of hate and intimidation right here in Los Angeles. I’ve also personally been worried about the anti-Israel sentiment infiltrating our local politics. I was profoundly disturbed by much of the commentary from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) on social media about the attacks in Israel. Celebrating the abduction and murder of innocent civilians is reprehensible and must be condemned.

I am proud to stand with Israel, its people, and Jewish families across Los Angeles.
Public Safety Update
As we continue to assess the situation in the Middle East and potential impacts here in Los Angeles, the safety of our community remains my top priority. LAPD is working closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to monitor for potential local threats and impacts. There will be additional law enforcement presence around religious institutions, places of worship, Jewish-owned businesses, and protests and rallies. LAX police are also providing enhanced security around our airport.

Although LAPD is not presently aware of any specific or credible local threats, they urge the public to remain vigilant and request that any suspicious activity be reported immediately to local law enforcement. Those attending demonstrations are asked to remain calm and peaceful.
Available Resources
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles offers resources to Jewish families across the region. For mental health support, please contact the Community Call Line at 855-JFED-HLP. Currently calls are monitored Monday-Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and Fridays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Reporting hate crimes is essential for the safety and well-being of our community. LAPD officers are trained to document hate crimes and incidents. Even if what you experienced or observed was a hate incident rather than a crime, your report is crucial. It provides the City of Los Angeles with vital data to shape city policies. Hate crimes can be reported at any police station, by dialing 9-1-1, or through the LAPD tip line at 877-529-3835. You can also report a hate crime at the Anti-Defamation League at adl.org.
LA City Health Commission To Consider Gun Violence
On October 16 at 6:00 PM, the City of Los Angeles Health Commission will convene a panel of experts to discuss gun violence, mental health, and how we can better combat this growing crisis. I look forward to addressing the Commission about my work on the Public Safety Committee and legislative actions I am taking to reduce gun crime in Los Angeles.
