This week I had the opportunity to celebrate key moments for two organizations that continue doing important work in Council District 12.

Operation Gratitude, an organization that works tirelessly to ensure that the members of our armed forces remain supported and appreciated, recently opened their forward operating base in Chatsworth Thanks to the work of thousands of volunteers, this organization is stronger than ever as they approach their two-decade anniversary. Additionally, I joined Ken Craft the CEO of Hope the Mission, to accept a generous donation from Robbie Groff, CEO of Northwest Excavating and Trebek Center neighbor in Northridge.

Hope the Mission’s Trebek Center is committed to addressing the root cause of homelessness and permanently keeping people off our streets. I am grateful to Mr. Groff for his generosity and Hope the Mission’s Trebek Center for partnering with its neighbors and the rest of Council District 12 to find real solutions for the City’s homeless crisis.

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! This celebration was established in 1981 by American Humane to help the millions of animals living in shelters find their forever home. To encourage the community to adopt and welcome a canine friend into their home, LA Animal Services is reducing adoption fees for dogs to $51 and down to $75 for puppies. Fees for cat adoptions are also reduced to $12.50, and down to $25 for kittens. Those interested in adopting can take advantage of these reduced fees on:

American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society to fight all cancers in our community. Relay For Life is not a race but rather a community festival that brings together passionate supporters who embody the American Cancer Society’s vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. This event unifies the community in celebrating cancer survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and fighting back together. On October 21st from 10am - 9pm, swing by Los Angeles Valley College and lend your support to this important event. Attend a Public Meeting about LA’s Bus Stops!

ATTENTION ALL LA BUS TRAVELERS…The City welcomes you to participate in a public meeting to improve LA’s bus stops! The City is working to improve LA’s bus rider experience by providing shelter

from heat and weather, shade, safety, seating comfort, as well as innovation and accessibility throughout Los Angeles from the Valley to the Harbor. There are multiple ways to participate:

In-person South Los Angeles: Attend Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 p.m. (Register here).
Online Survey: Take the Design & Customization Survey for a chance to win one of four $50 gift cards.
Follow & Comment: Sign up for project updates or leave a comment on the proposed
improvements.
