I want to invite you to join us this Thursday at our One-Five Career Fair in partnership with Holy Family Church and Assemblymember Mike Gipson’s office in the beautiful community of Wilmington.

This is the third career fair that we’ve held in the district because I am committed to both filling the city’s vacancies in our departments, and offering those jobs to One-Five residents. This is an opportunity for our residents to find and build careers in the community that they love.

With 52 city, state and private employers participating, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with employers, apply on-site with application assistance from the LA City Personnel Department, interview, and in some cases receive same-day offers from private organizations. Participating organizations include LAUSD, LA City Recreation & Parks, Caltrans, Department of Water & Power, Boys and Girls Club, and many more!

The Career Fair will take place at Holy Family Church at 1122 E. Robidoux Street from 9 AM - 3 PM.

The 2019 “Green New Deal” provided a framework that aims to guide the city of Los Angeles’ ability to improve community resilience, expand access to healthy food and open space, promote clean air and water, and further justice for all. Yet, 2023 turned out to be the hottest summer on record, with some studies highlighting that July was the hottest month in 120,000 years. Earlier this month, the City Controller released an assessment of the City’s Green New Deal analyzing the existing Green New Deal milestones and progress made toward them and poses recommendations for metrics that might serve as improved targets for a Greener New Deal. With immediate and evolving challenges facing our environment and economy, a renewed dedication to action is urgently needed now more than ever. That is why yesterday I introduced a motion to have the City Controller provide this report to the Personnel Committee, which I chair, so we can assess the impacts of our policy decisions and their effectiveness on the environment to help lead us to a cleaner, greener, and more environmentally just future.

CLEAN 15

Check out these Before and Afters of our Clean 15 Team’s work! This week they removed 74 tons within the One-Five and we’re highlighting the team’s hard work clearing walkways, medians and helping clean up piles of illegal dumping in Harbor City and Harbor Gateway! STATE OF THE ONE-FIVE

I will always believe that we are Stronger Together. I was so honored to have residents from our 5 beautiful communities in one place again on Wednesday, this time at the WLCAC in Watts, for our State of the One-Five. We’ve done a lot of great work already, and there’s more work to be done - but I’m grateful to have all of your support, advice, motivation, and guidance.

ITALIAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

Yesterday morning in celebration of Italian American Heritage Month, we welcomed into Council Chambers the Italian Consul General Raffaella Valentini, and the Little Italy of Los Angeles Association including Board President Mario Amalfitano, Vice President John De Girolamo, and Cultural Affairs Ambassador Anna Manunza. From the Festa Italiana earlier this month, to the presentation today, I’m glad we’ve been able to come together to celebrate the rich, vibrant, and beautiful Italian culture and uplift the Italian Americans in the One-Five.

WEAR PINK

We wore pink this week in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness. According to the World Health Organization, in 2020 breast cancer became the most common cancer worldwide. As early diagnosis of breast cancer results in effective treatment outcomes, it’s vitally important to stay up to date with blood tests, X-rays, and mammograms.

HEAL THE BAY DAY

Friday was Heal the Bay Day in the city of Los Angeles! Heal the Bay is an environmental non-profit established in 1985 that is dedicated to making the coastal waters and watersheds in Greater Los Angeles safe, healthy, and clean. The work that Heal the Bay does is felt throughout the region and carries particular significance to me in the One-Five in the Harbor Area - from our precious coast to the Port. OVERNIGHT CLOSURES ON VINCENT THOMAS BRIDGE

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is currently enforcing nighttime closures of the Vincent Thomas Bridge for the next few weeks. Each night the bridge, located on State Route 47 (SR 47), will close in one or both directions beginning as early as 8 PM and will reopen by 6 AM the following morning. Weekend closures are not anticipated. The closures will allow crews to safely install cable safety upgrades. See graphic above for detour routes.

BUS STOP CLEANING

Shelterclean Services maintains the bus shelters in the One-Five and throughout Los Angeles. You can report a bus stop that needs to be cleaned to +1 (866) 633-0068 and it should be cleaned within 48 hours. This bus shelter Pacific Coast Highway and Western Ave. was cleaned within 24 hours after being reported!

GRAFFITI REMOVAL

Thanks to GAP for continuing to provide clean and safe spaces in our communities. This week they cleaned up the graffiti by Senator Ave. and Pacific Coast Highway.

HALLOWEEN CONTEST

TRUNK OR TREAT

We’ve got a lot of great Trunk or Treat events in the Gateway this next week! Join us on Friday and/or Saturday at Normandale Rec Center, Rosecrans Rec Center, and Cheryl Green Boys and Girls Club. Come in your halloween costume and participate in games, enjoy the music, food, and decorate a trick or treating bag! See dates and times on the flyer above.

BULKY ITEM PICKUP

If you have any bulky items such as a dresser that you would like to be picked up, please report them on the MyLA311 app. The app will give you a pick-up date, where you can proceed to leave your item outside for collection!

STREET RESURFACING

Today and possibly tomorrow, the Bureau of Street Services will work to repave Broadway between 115th St. to 117th St. Vehicle access and parking will be prohibited.

FALLEN TREE REMOVAL

Thank you to the Streets LA crew for responding so quickly to a tree emergency on Sepulveda St. this week. A large fallen limb blocked access through the street and after inspection it was determined to have structural damage at the base and was removed.

ALTASEA BLUE HOUR

This Saturday I attended the AltaSea Blue Hour. We celebrated an amazing program, spectacular exhibits, and great honorees. I am so proud of the work AltaSea and its partners are doing in the blue economy and ocean sustainability.

MANY WINTERS GATHERING OF ELDERS

On Saturday I visited Angels Gate Cultural Center for the 17th Many Winters Gathering of Elders. This four-day gathering where Native/Indigenous Elders and knowledge-keepers from across the country gather to share teachings through oral tradition with the community. It was deeply moving to be allowed to hear teachings in a sacred space under the arbor.

PUPS AND BOOKS

Two for one - take home a good book and a furry friend! On Saturday, the LA Animal Services and the LA Public Library partnered up for a Dog Adoption Event. If you were unable to attend, the LA Harbor Animal Shelter has lots of dogs, cats, and other pets that are in need of a loving home - visit their shelter at 957 N. Gaffey St.

POWER POLE RESTORED

This week LADWP came out to get a compromised power pole fixed on Lou Dillon Ave. If you see a power pole that needs attention you can report it on MyLA311, to LADWP, or call our office.

ILLEGAL DUMPING

Thanks to LA Sanitation and Environment’s Livability Service Division, with coordination from our Clean 15 team, we were able to clear and clean the alley between Anzac and Grape St. at Century Blvd.

RAILROAD PREPAREDNESS

It’s crucial we have the right tools and information to prepare for whatever event may occur - whether it be an earthquake or an emergency on the railroad tracks that run through our neighborhoods. Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) is an outreach program that assists communities and first responders in preparing for possible hazmat events and providing training and resources to local residents. Thanks to the Department of Justice, Union Pacific HAZMAT team, and LAFD for providing resources to the community last weekend and informing residents of what to look out for on the rail lines.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB SPORTS

This week I joined the Boys and Girls Club in Wilmington for a sports clinic hosted by SoFi, LA Bowl, and the USC Athletic Club. 120 kids had the opportunity to play basketball, football, and softball with collegiate athletes.

DOMINGUEZ STREET TRUCKING

This Wednesday I met with the neighbors who live by Dominguez Street in East Wilmington to discuss their quality of life issues, particularly as it pertains to a proposed truck parking site. As a result of the meeting, yesterday I introduced a motion asking the Planning Department and the Department of Building and Safety to prepare a report to see if the proposed truck parking site is in compliance with the Clean Up Green Up ordinance and to include if any land use violations have occurred.

EAST GREENBELT NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING

On Tuesday I attended the monthly East Greenbelt Neighborhood Watch meeting. At the meeting, LAPD Harbor Division Officers provided information on the tragic shooting that occurred on Monday night.

EQUIPO CLEAN 15

¡Vea estos Antes y Después del trabajo de nuestro equipo Clean 15! ¡Esta semana retiraron 74 toneladas dentro del One-Five y destacamos el arduo trabajo del equipo limpiando pasarelas, medianas y ayudando a limpiar montones de desechos ilegales en Harbor City y Harbor Gateway! Reporte el vertido ilegal en MyLA311, pero también puede enviar sus solicitudes a nuestras oficinas del distrito.

ESTADO DEL DISTRITO ONE-FIVE

Siempre creeré que juntos somos más fuertes. Fue un gran honor para mí tener residentes de nuestras cinco hermosas comunidades nuevamente en un solo lugar el miércoles, esta vez en el WLCAC en Watts, para nuestro Estado del Distrito del One-Five Ya hemos realizado un gran trabajo y aún queda mucho por hacer, pero agradezco contar con todo su apoyo, consejo, motivación y orientación.

MES DEL PATRIMONIO ITALiANO AMERICANO

Ayer para celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Italoamericana, dimos la bienvenida a la Cámara del Consejo a la Cónsul General de Italia, Raffaella Valentini, y a la Asociación Little Italy de Los Ángeles, incluido el Presidente de la Junta Directiva Mario Amalfitano, el Vicepresidente John De Girolamo y la Embajadora de Asuntos Culturales Anna Manunza. Desde la Festa Italiana de principios de este mes hasta la presentación de hoy, me alegra que hayamos podido reunirnos para celebrar la rica, vibrante y hermosa cultura italiana y elevar a los italoamericanos en el One-Five.

VISTIENDO DE COLOR ROSA

Esta semana nos vestimos de rosa en reconocimiento a la concientización sobre el cáncer de mama. Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud, en 2020 el cáncer de mama se convertirá en el cáncer más común en todo el mundo. Dado que el diagnóstico temprano del cáncer de mama da como resultados de tratamiento efectivos, es vital importancia mantenerse al día con los análisis de sangre y las radiografías.

SANAR EL DÍA DE LA BAHÍA

¡El viernes fue el Día de Sanar la Bahía en la ciudad de Los Ángeles! Heal the Bay es una organización ambiental sin fines de lucro establecida en 1985 que se dedica a hacer que las aguas costeras y las cuencas hidrográficas del Gran Los Ángeles sean seguras, saludables y limpias. El trabajo que realiza Heal the Bay se ve en toda la región y tiene un significado particular para mí en One-Five en el área del puerto, desde nuestra preciosa costa hasta el puerto. CIERRES NOCTURNOS EN EL PUENTE VINCENT THOMAS

El Departamento de Transporte de California (Caltrans) actualmente está imponiendo cierres nocturnos del puente Vincent Thomas durante las próximas semanas. Cada noche, el puente, ubicado en la ruta estatal 47 (SR 47), se cerrará en una o ambas direcciones a partir de las 8 PM y volverá a abrir a las 6 AM de la mañana siguiente. No se prevén cierres de fin de semana. Los cierres permitirán a las cuadrillas instalar de forma segura mejoras de seguridad de los cables. ELIMINACIÓN DE ÁRBOL CAÍDO

Gracias al equipo de Streets LA por responder de manera rápida a una emergencia de un árbol en la calle Sepúlveda esta semana. Una rama caída de gran tamaño bloqueó el acceso a la calle y después de una inspección se determinó que tenía daños estructurales en la base y fue retirada.

LA HORA AZUL DE ALTASEA

Este sábado asistí a la AltaSea Blue Hour. Celebramos un programa increíble, exhibiciones espectaculares y grandes homenajeados. Estoy muy orgulloso del trabajo que AltaSea y sus socios están haciendo en la economía azul y la sostenibilidad de los océanos.

REUNIÓN DE PERSONAS DE LA TERCERA EDAD

El sábado visité el Centro Cultural Angel's Gate para la Decimoséptima Reunión de Personas de la Tercera Edad Muchos Inviernos. Esta reunión de cuatro días permite a las personas mayores nativos/indígenas y los guardianes del conocimiento de todo el país reunirse para compartir enseñanzas a través de la tradición oral con la comunidad. Fue profundamente conmovedor que se le permitiera escuchar enseñanzas en un espacio sagrado bajo el cenador.

CACHORROS Y LIBROS

Dos por uno: ¡llévate a casa un buen libro y un amigo peludo! El sábado, los Servicios para Animales de Los Ángeles y la Biblioteca Pública de Los Ángeles se asociaron para un evento de adopción de perros. Si no pudo asistir, el LA Harbor Animal Shelter tiene muchos perros, gatos y otras mascotas que necesitan un hogar amoroso: visite su refugio en 957 N. Gaffey St.

POSTE DE ENERGÍA DEL DWP RESTAURADO

VERTEDERO ILEGAL

Gracias a la División de Servicios de Habitabilidad de LA Sanitation and Environment con la coordinación de nuestro equipo Clean 15, pudimos despejar y limpiar el callejón entre Anzac y Grape St. en Century Blvd.

PREPARACIÓN DEL FERROCARRIL

Es fundamental que tengamos las herramientas y la información adecuadas para prepararnos para cualquier evento que pueda ocurrir, ya sea un terremoto o una emergencia en las vías del ferrocarril que atraviesan nuestros vecindarios. El programa de extensión Transporte de Concientización Comunitaria y Respuesta a Emergencias (TRANSCAER) ayuda a las comunidades y a los socorristas a prepararse para posibles eventos de materiales peligrosos y brinda capacitación y recursos a los residentes locales. Gracias al Departamento de Justicia, al equipo HAZMAT de Union Pacific y al LAFD por brindar recursos a la comunidad el fin de semana pasado e informar a los residentes sobre qué buscar en las líneas ferroviarias.

DEPORTES EN EL BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Esta semana me uní al Boys and Girls Club en Wilmington para una clínica deportiva organizada por el SoFi, LA Bowl y el USC Athletic Club. 120 niños tuvieron la oportunidad de jugar baloncesto, fútbol y softbol con atletas universitarios.

PROBLEMAS DE CAMIONES EN LA CALLE DOMÍNGUEZ

Este miércoles me reuní con los vecinos que viven en y cerca de la calle Dominguez en East Wilmington para discutir sus problemas de calidad de vida, particularmente en lo que respecta a un sitio de estacionamiento para camiones propuesto. Como resultado de la reunión, ayer presenté una moción solicitando al Departamento de Planificación y al Departamento de Construcción y Seguridad que preparen un informe con recomendaciones y ver si el sitio de estacionamiento de camiones propuesto cumple con la ordenanza Clean Up Green Up y incluir si ha ocurrido alguna violación del uso de la tierra.

REUNIÓN DEL GRUPO VECINAL DE EAST GREENBELT

El martes asistí a la reunión mensual de Vigilancia Vecinal de East Greenbelt. Ahí, oficiales de la División Portuaria del LAPD brindaron información sobre el trágico tiroteo ocurrido el lunes por la noche.
