Honoring Our Veterans: Thank You For Your Service

This weekend presents an opportunity to pause and reflect on the dedication and sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have worn our country's uniform. Whether they served in war or peace, each decision to serve is a selfless commitment to our nation's ideals. As the proud daughter of a U.S. Army veteran, this is a moment to not only honor my father's legacy, but also the collective spirit of all who have served.

To all of you who have served, thank you.

CD11 Veteran Of The Year
This week I was privileged to honor Robert Reynolds as the CD11 Veteran of the Year. An Iraq combat veteran who struggles with PTSD, Robert has consistently advocated for homeless veterans on the Westside. Robert was instrumental in helping dozens of people move out of the Veteran’s Row encampment on San Vicente into tiny homes on the VA campus. Click on the video below to watch Robert's story.
Veterans Resource Fair
My office is proud to be hosting a Veterans Resource Fair on December 7th. Located at the New Directions for Veterans building on the VA campus, there will be free grocery gift cards, food, and living essentials, as well as access to all sorts of resources and information for all veterans. For any questions, please email Michael Amster at michael.amster@lacity.org

Moving Autonomous Vehicles In A Safe Direction

The City Council unanimously approved my motion calling for greater regulation of autonomous vehicles as this new technology is piloted on the streets of Los Angeles. Our City has always been a leader in adaptive technology, and we want to continue this innovation. But with so many public safety concerns, it’s important to proactively ensure this technology does not interfere with emergency response vehicles or endanger other motorists, cyclists, or pedestrians.

CD11 Town Hall On RV Encampments

On Wednesday, my team and I held a town hall to address the significant increase in oversized vehicle dwelling and the broader implications of a 73% rise in homelessness in our community. This number isn't just a statistic to us; it's a call to action. For those who couldn't join us, we covered a lot of information, so I invite you to watch the recording of our town hall here.
Quake Heroes Disaster Preparedness Expo

Safety doesn't come from luck.  It comes from preparation.

The Westchester Family YMCA in partnership with the Southern CA Earthquake Center at USC and RomaScope is inviting you to a disaster preparedness event. The evening will feature the Westchester premiere of “Quake Heroes,” a one-hour documentary that explores stories of survivors from the Northridge earthquake 30 years ago. Following the film, the audience is invited to speak with a panel of experts to discuss educational take-aways from the film, including the 7-steps to preparedness. Pre-register here and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same!

Park's Pick
For this weeks Park's Pick, we spotlight the Ellis Institute for Transformative Medicine, a pioneering cancer research center located in the West LA community. This center and its staff, led by Dr. David Agus, have devoted their lives to the research and development of transformative cancer treatment.
Adopt-A-Pet

It's time to meet Brownie - our charming Pet of the Week! Weighing in at 60 pounds, Brownie is a nine-year-old senior who knows just how to use those puppy eyes to ask for treats and pets! Because November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, it is the perfect time to take Brownie home. You can meet him at Harbor Center.

LA Animal Services center is offering reduced adoption fees for dogs and cats at all six of its locations during Stray Light Savings Adoption Weekend, happening November 11 and 12. For more information about LA Animal Services, visit: laanimalservices.com.
