Dear friends, fam, and allies,
Have you noticed an OrganicsLA compost pail by your mailbox or in front of your door? Well, it may have been delivered by one of the Council District 1 Climate Action Fellows!
Kitchen pails are great to collect kitchen scraps like banana peels🍌, apple cores🍎, eggshells🥚, and melon seeds🍈. Putting food waste in the pails and adding to the City green bin curbside organics program helps put nutrients from these items back into the soil through composting.
As CD1 Climate Action Fellows, we have a goal of distributing 10,000 kitchen pails throughout CD1 and you can help! Volunteer at one of our next canvassing/tabling events to distribute free kitchen pails to CD1 residents. Come mingle, explore new neighborhoods, and engage in environmental initiatives in your community.

You can also sign up to host a kitchen pail distribution in your neighborhood. Sign up HERE and our CD1 Fellows will come to you!
Let’s get Los Angeles composting!

Ridwell:
More than 10 local nonprofits recently signed a letter supporting the expansion of Ridwell, a curbside collection service to sustainably reuse and recycle many different kinds of materials, to the City of LA! With demand for responsible waste disposal growing so rapidly, Ridwell hopes to secure their permit from LA Sanitation soon.
In the meantime, Ridwell has many different high-quality, sustainable products such as coasters made from wine corks and planter pots from multi-layer plastic available for purchase on their site! These products are artisan crafted from more than 3 million pounds of material collected, repurposing and diverting waste from landfill!
