The Purpose of Life

The main purpose of life is to know your Self or, in other words,
to realize the peace and joy within you.
  –Swami Satchidananda

In honor of the 109th Birth Anniversary of Integral Yoga founder Sri Swami Satchidananda, we offer our great love and reverence to our beloved Guru. We are eternally grateful for all we received and continue to receive from him and his teachings. In this video, Sri Swamiji speaks about several of the Gurus who influenced his own life, including Sri Swami Chidbhavananda and Sri Sadhu Swamigal of Palani.

We all need teachers in life; not everything can be learned from a book. According to Hindu tradition, there are four main teachers: Mata, Pita, Guru, Deva: Mother, Father, Guru and God. For example, we see ourselves as separate from one another, and we assume our security and happiness come from acquiring or arranging things well enough.  MORE

Rev. Prakash Capen left behind her career in broadcasting when she realized her real passion—to serve by teaching Yoga. Prakash now focuses on concerns for those with chronic illness and disabilities and the application of Yoga in daily life. In this podcast hosted by Avi Gordon, she explores Yoga as unity, emphasizing its role in bringing people together. She also addresses the challenge of self-judgment, advocating for a sense of humor in the pursuit of balance.

My dad ascended the rickety ladder, thus launching our family’s annual quest to decorate our Christmas tree. Ours was no snowy trek to an idyllic woodland. Instead it was an ascension up the world’s oldest wooden ladder to a high and bafflingly small closet where our fake tree waited for its brief—yet emphatic—holiday glory. The ladder creaked as my dad passed the boxes down to my mom. Wind from nearby Lake Michigan rattled the storm windows.  MORE
