It’s been a busy month as we got into the holiday spirit with so many incredible community events! We held 8 Winter Wonderlands throughout the communities of the One-Five - full of tree lightings, sledding, games, Santa, hot cocoa, dancing, and more! It brought me so much joy to see families out enjoying their neighborhoods, having fun, and especially our community’s kids, just having fun and being kids. That is what makes this time of year so special.

But this season is also about giving back. From all of the toy drives, community dinners, to tree giveaways, community leaders throughout the One-Five showed what makes our communities so unique; we look out for and uplift one another.

I’m full of gratitude for being able to be with you in community at all of these events. Wishing you and your family a happy holiday season filled with joy, loved ones, and many blessings.

CLEAN 15

Check out these Before and Afters of our Clean 15 Team’s work! This week, we’re highlighting the team’s hard work helping clean up piles of illegal dumping in Harbor Gateway and Wilmington! Please report illegal dumping to MyLA311, but you can also report requests to our district offices.

ILWU CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY

On Saturday, I joined ILWU Locals 13, 63, 94 and 26, So. California Pensioners Federated Auxiliary #8 and the Longshore Memorial Association at their Annual ILWU Children’s Christmas Party. Toys were donated and over 2000 kids lined up to receive a toy for the holiday season!

The ONE•FIVE is made up of 5 distinct communities that add so much to our district. See below for specific updates for each of the neighborhoods.

WINTER WONDERLAND

Our second to last Winter Wonderland was in Harbor City on Saturday rounding out all 5 communities this holiday season! Thanks to everyone who came out to the Harbor City Rec Center - and thanks to Rec & Parks and the Harbor City Neighborhood Council for making this such a great event! We had snow runs, a tree lighting, and performances from HARTS Academy choir, the Boys & Girls Club, and even a Grinch aerialist! A special thanks to all the community members for bringing holiday-themed activities to this event!

HOLIDAY LIGHTS CONTEST

Our office had the privilege of escorting the Harbor City Neighborhood Council on their 16th Annual Holiday Lights Contest. Seven winners were chosen, one in each part of Harbor City!

TRAFFIC IMPACTS FOR PIPELINE IMPROVEMENT

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is making improvements to a vital water delivery pipeline known as the Second Lower Feeder. Potential impacts near the project area could include temporary traffic delays, lane closures, and parking restrictions. See graphics above for closures and restrictions. WINTER WONDERLAND

We closed out the 2023 Winter Wonderland season with one final celebration at the Cheryl Green Boys & Girls Club in Harbor Gateway South on Tuesday! The line was long for Santa and it was great to see the kids playing in the snow. Thanks to the Harbor Gateway South Neighborhood Council for partnering to put on this event, the LA Galaxy for bringing the inflatable goal, and all the community members and local organizations for providing the resource booths.

BUREAU OF STREET LIGHTING REPAIRS

This week, our office reported exposed wires on Vermont Avenue near Rosecrans Recreation Center. We are thankful that the Bureau of Street Lighting maintenance crews were able to repair the pull box! If you ever come across this, please report this to 311 and notify our office!

CALTRANS MAINTENANCE ON THE 110

CalTrans crews were doing graffiti abatement this week on the 110 right off of 149th St. For any graffiti, overgrown vegetation and debris you see on the freeway, please report it here and make a service request!

HOLIDAY MARKET

It was a great Sunday visiting small businesses at the Pedro Business Improvement District’s Holiday Market. The event showcased a range of vendors from clothing and jewelry to plants and home goods. It was an incredible display of the small local businesses the Harbor has to offer. Remember to shop local this holiday season!

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

I spent Saturday morning at the Toberman Neighborhood Center's Breakfast with Santa! This annual event brings together families who participate in Toberman’s after-school and violence intervention programs or are receiving case management through their incredible family source center. There were holiday craft activities and as a special treat parents & caregivers got to pick out and take home a toy for their child as a surprise!

CHEF TRACEY’S COMMUNITY DINNER

Finished Thursday as a helper at Chef Tracey’s Christmas Community Dinner. Tracey cooks a delicious feast, with all the fixings and desserts, and he serves everyone and anyone who comes to Sacred Grounds to enjoy together. These past several years, this meal has become a Downtown San Pedro holiday tradition.

MEALS ON WHEELS WITH SANTA

I joined Santa on Thursday morning to deliver meals to senior residents in San Pedro. This annual tradition is a part of the daily Meals on Wheels program which provides nourishing and hot meals to those in need. Thank you to Ken Creighton and Mike Cacavelli for including me in this special morning!

A TOP DAWG ENTERTAINMENT HOLIDAY

The One-Five is fortunate to have Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) so deeply rooted and invested in Nickerson Gardens. TDE brought the cheer and joy to Watts Tuesday and Wednesday as we celebrated their 10th Annual Concert/Toy Drive and Community Giveback. A special thank you to Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith and Jay Rock - both raised in Nickerson - for always working to uplift the community.

MACEDONIA BAPTIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS

Macedonia Baptist Church has been in full swing celebrating the 115th year of Faith and Community. Together with the Macedonia CDC, they honored the rich history of the congregation and I was honored to attend the 4th Annual Christmas in Watts "Ode to Joy" on Sunday. Shout out to Aquila Jacquette of Team McOsker for participating and wow-ing us all in the choir!

DR. KING DAY CELEBRATION

Save the date for the upcoming Annual Watts Dr. King Day Celebration taking place on Saturday, January 6. The celebration will take place inside the Martin Luther King Jr. Shopping Center on Compton Ave. and 103rd St. and the theme is "Insisting on the Integrity of the Dream.”

TOY GIVEAWAYS

This week I attended 3 big toy giveaways in Wilmington! On Tuesday I stopped by the Wilmington Community Clinic where many of the kids had previously requested toys and we were able to distribute them for the holiday season. On Wednesday I was with the Wilmington Teen Center where kids chose from bikes, skateboards, games, and dolls to take home for the holidays! And, in the evening was the 4th Annual Wilmington Toy Giveaway! About 300 kids stopped by to receive toys and snacks thanks to the incredible work of Angel Montes of Los Tres Cochinitos and Al Cien, and other great Wilmington businesses, who gathered the gifts for the children.

SENIOR CENTER CHRISTMAS PARTY

The music and dancing was fantastic on Saturday at WilHall Senior Center’s Christmas party! The DJ was playing bomba music and birria was served to all those who attended.

SAFE CLEAN WATER

The Wilmington Neighborhood Greening Project is designed to help manage and treat stormwater, manage rainwater, and provide park improvements to the Wilmington Recreation Center and Park. The community benefits include cleaner stormwater in the area, park improvement and green spaces, and less pollution in stormwater runoff. The project is currently in the Design, Development, and Permitting phase, and it is LASAN’s goal to continue to introduce the Wilmington community to this project and to keep everyone up to date on project developments as the design is finalized.

Este mes ha estado muy ocupado ya que nos adentramos en el espíritu navideño con varios eventos comunitarios increíbles! Celebramos 8 Winter Wonderlands en todas las comunidades del One-Five, llenos de luces de árboles, trineos de nieve, juegos, Santa Claus, chocolate caliente, bailes y mucho más. Me dio mucha alegría ver a las familias disfrutar de sus vecindarios, celebrar y, especialmente, a los niños de nuestra comunidad, simplemente divertirse y ser niños. Eso es lo que hace que esta época del año sea tan especial.

Pero esta temporada también se trata de retribuir. Desde todas las colectas de juguetes, cenas comunitarias hasta obsequios de árboles, los líderes comunitarios del One-Five mostraron lo que hace que nuestras comunidades sean tan únicas; nos cuidamos y nos elevamos unos a otros.

Estoy muy agradecido por poder estar con ustedes en comunidad en todos estos eventos. Deseándole a usted y a su familia unas felices fiestas llenas de alegría, seres queridos y muchas bendiciones.

EQUIPO CLEAN 15

FIESTA NAVIDENA PARA NINOS DEL ILWU

El sábado me uní a los Locales 13, 63, 94 y 26 de ILWU, el Auxiliar Federado de Pensionados de California #8 y la Longshore Memorial Association en su fiesta anual de Navidad para niños del ILWU. ¡Se donaron juguetes y más de 2,000 niños hicieron fila para recibir un juguete para la temporada navideña!

CONCURSO DE LUCES NAVIDEÑAS

Nuestra oficina tuvo el privilegio de acompañar al Consejo Vecinal de Harbor City en su Decimosexto Concurso Anual de Luces Navideñas. Se eligieron siete ganadores, ¡uno en cada parte de Harbor City!

IMPACTOS DEL TRÁFICO PARA MEJORAS DE LA TUBERÍA

El Distrito Metropolitano de Agua del Sur de California está haciendo mejoras en una tubería de suministro de agua vital conocida como el Segundo Alimentador Inferior. Los posibles impactos cerca del área del proyecto podrían incluir retrasos temporales en el tráfico, cierres de carriles y restricciones de estacionamiento. WINTER WONDERLAND

¡Cerramos la temporada de Winter Wonderland 2023 con una celebración final en el Cheryl Green Boys & Girls Club en Harbor Gateway South el martes! La fila era larga para Santa y fue genial ver a los niños jugando en la nieve. OFICINA DE REPARACIONES DE ALUMBRADO PÚBLICO

Esta semana, nuestra oficina reportó cables expuestos en Vermont Avenue cerca del Centro Recreativo Rosecrans. ¡Estamos agradecidos de que los equipos de mantenimiento de la Oficina de Alumbrado Público hayan podido reparar la caja de extracción! MERCADO NAVIDENO

Fue un gran domingo visitando pequeños negocios en el Mercado Navideño del Distrito de Mejoramiento Comercial de Pedro. El evento presentó una variedad de proveedores, desde ropa y joyería hasta plantas y artículos para el hogar. Fue una exhibición increíble de las pequeñas empresas locales que el puerto tiene para ofrecer. ¡Recuerde comprar localmente en estas fiestas!

DESAYUNO CON PAPÁ NOEL

¡Pasé el sábado por la mañana al desayuno con Santa del Toberman Neighborhood Center! Este evento anual reúne a familias que participan en los programas extracurriculares y de intervención contra la violencia de Toberman o que reciben administración de casos a través de su increíble centro de recursos familiares. Hubo actividades artesanales navideñas, nieve y, como regalo especial, los padres y cuidadores pudieron elegir y llevarse a casa un juguete para su hijo como sorpresa.

CENA COMUNITARIA DEL CHEF TRACEY

Terminé el jueves como ayudante en la cena comunitaria de Navidad del chef Tracey. Tracey prepara un banquete delicioso, con todas las guarniciones y postres, y sirve a todos los que vienen a Sacred Grounds a disfrutar juntos. En los últimos años, esta comida se ha convertido en una tradición navideña en el centro de San Pedro.

COMIDAS SOBRE RUEDAS CON SANTA

Acompañé a Santa el jueves por la mañana para entregar comidas a los residentes mayores en San Pedro. Esta tradición anual es parte del programa diario Meals on Wheels, que proporciona comidas calientes y nutritivas a los necesitados. ¡Gracias a Ken Creighton y Mike Cacavelli por incluirme en esta mañana especial!

LAS MEJORES VACACIONES DE ENTRETENIMIENTO DAWG

El One-Five tiene la suerte de contar con Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) tan profundamente arraigado e invertido en Nickerson Gardens. TDE trajo festividad y alegría a Watts el martes y miércoles mientras celebramos su décimo concierto anual/colecta de juguetes comunitarios. NAVIDAD DE LA IGLESIA BAUTISTA DE MACEDONIA

La Iglesia Bautista de Macedonia ha estado en pleno apogeo celebrando el 115º aniversario de Fe y Comunidad. Junto con el CDC de Macedonia, honraron la rica historia de la congregación y tuve el honor de asistir a la 4ª "Oda a la Alegría" Anual de Navidad en Watts el domingo. ¡Un saludo a Aquila Jacquette del equipo McOsker por participar y sorprendernos a todos en el coro!

CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA DE DR. KING

Reserve la fecha para la próxima celebración anual en Watts del Día de Dr. King el sábado 6 de enero. La celebración se llevará a cabo dentro del centro comercial Martin Luther King Jr. en Compton Ave/103rd St. y el tema es "Insistir en la Integridad del Sueño".

ENTREGA DE JUGUETES

¡Esta semana asistí a 3 grandes entregas de juguetes en Wilmington! El martes pasé a la entrega de la Clínica Comunitaria de Wilmington, donde muchos de los niños habían solicitado previamente juguetes que pudimos distribuirles para la temporada navideña. El miércoles estuve en el Wilmington Teen Center para una entrega donde los niños pudieron elegir entre bicicletas, patinetas, juegos y muñecas para llevarse a casa durante las fiestas. ¡Y por la noche se celebró el cuarto sorteo anual de juguetes de Wilmington! Alrededor de 300 niños pasaron para recibir juguetes y refrigerios gracias al increíble trabajo de Angel Montes de Los Tres Cochinitos y Al Cien, y otras grandes empresas de Wilmington, quienes reunieron los regalos para los niños.

FIESTA NAVIDEÑA DEL CENTRO PARA PERSONAS MAYORES

¡La música y el baile fueron fantásticos el sábado en la fiesta de Navidad del WilHall Senior Center! El DJ tocó música de bomba y se sirvió birria a todos los asistentes. ¡Esta fiesta anual de Navidad siempre es genial!

AGUA LIMPIA SEGURA

El Proyecto de Ecologización del Vecindario de Wilmington está diseñado para ayudar a gestionar y tratar las aguas pluviales, gestionar el agua de lluvia y proporcionar mejoras en el parque y el centro recreativo de Wilmington. Los beneficios para la comunidad incluyen aguas pluviales más limpias en el área, mejoras en parques y espacios verdes, y menos contaminación en la escorrentía de aguas pluviales. El proyecto se encuentra actualmente en la fase de Diseño, Desarrollo y Permisos. El objetivo de LASAN es continuar presentando este proyecto a la comunidad de Wilmington y mantener a todos actualizados sobre los desarrollos del proyecto a medida que se finaliza el diseño.
