Welcome to the first Connection Corner
Connection Corner is our weekly publication bringing you insight and information so that we can stay connected.
One thing I have been reminded of this week is making change requires time. Time to plan, time to design, time to implement and of course time to get adjusted to it. The Connection Corner is in this boat (this is an intentional pun from our current stage theme). Over the next month this weekly communication will slowly shape and mould into something that connects us together. So here are a few things that I would like you to connect with this week.
Baptism
It was a real privilege and joy to be apart of Sophie and Abigail's baptisms this past week at church. It is always amazing when we get to see someone publicly acknowledge Jesus as their Lord. Let's continue to pray for these two girls, especially over the next few weeks.
So what is Baptism all about? - Baptism is a significant moment in your faith where you publicly share what Jesus Christ has done in your life and declare you commitment to follow Him. You get to invite your community to support you. It is also a powerful next step in your journey of faith. Is God prompting you to be baptised. Send a quick email to penny@fbc.nz for more details.
Membership
Another step of commitment after Baptism is membership. I would love to have conversations with people who would like to become members of our Franklin Baptist Church Whānau. Membership is an important part of our church community. It shows a commitment to support and discern the work that God is doing through us in Franklin Baptist Church. If you want to discover more about membership at FBC email josh@fbc.nz.
Garden High Tea Cancellation
It is with huge disappointment and regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Garden High Tea event. Just to recap…
The event was first scheduled for November 2022 … it was postponed until the following week because of rain. It was then postponed again until February 2023 for the same reason. If you can recall it never stopped raining throughout February and so it was postponed until November 2023. Again we had rain and our fall back day was fine but our caterers were not able to help on that day.
We postponed it again until February 2024.
Our hosts, Chris and Kate Caldwell worked tirelessly to have their place looking especially beautiful for each of these dates and invited people to come and enjoy the garden even though the event itself was not going ahead. Unfortunately Kate, whilst working in the garden, suffered a serious back injury and was hospitalised for 5 days… she is slowly getting better but is a long way from full restoration. In addition I accepted a booking to have my second knee replacement which was done last week. After consultation with Kate plus the caterers and the Leadership Team it was decided to cancel this event. This decision was a difficult one because of how much work had gone into it and the knowledge that the occasion would have been wonderful.
The church banked $900 from early ticket sales and this sum was matched so $1800 has gone towards our mortgage repayment. However because the event has been cancelled rather than postponed everyone is entitled to receive a full refund. Already we have received suggestions about having a different fundraising event.
Anyone wishing to receive a refund simply make a request directly to Den at the office or me (Alan Calvert) on 021528144 or calverts@gmail.com
Thankyou for your patience and understanding.
Alan.
Thank you reading our first Connection Corner. We hope this communication will help to connect us together as a congregation.
