February 9, 2024

As we conclude a week of heavy rains, I’d like to take a moment to share my gratitude for the incredible city workers who operated tirelessly around the clock to ensure that residents remained protected and safe during the storm.

Firefighters, police officers, Public Works staff and crews, LADWP employees, traffic officers and engineers, Recreation and Parks staff and so many others braved the storm to minimize the impact on our city and ensure emergencies were addressed as quickly as possible. We are grateful for their selflessness and commitment to their work.

Amidst the serious weather, one organization in the Valley refused to let the rain put a damper on their parade. I joined Hope the Mission alongside other city leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of their brand new regional kitchen which will serve 22 different sites. By the end of this year, the kitchen will be able to make 10,000 fresh, healthy meals per day, totaling 5 million meals per year.

Lastly, this weekend marks the start of the Lunar New Year, a beloved tradition that is celebrated across the globe. Lunar New Year serves as a reminder of the value of family, the importance of respecting your elders, and hope for a bright future in the year ahead. I hope that this year brings all Angelenos health, prosperity, and happiness. Please click here to watch my commemoration of this special holiday during this week’s Friday Council meeting.

As Los Angeles continues to address crimes targeting our city’s infrastructure, it remains imperative to implement solutions that directly address the root causes of these crimes.
