Budget Update
WATCH OUR WEEKLY BUDGET UPDATE HERE.

In this week's budget update, I discuss your responses to our budget survey, as well as the impacts about ballot measure Healthy Streets Los Angeles (HLA), which would require the City to install bus and bike lanes every time it resurfaces any 1/8-mile stretch of road that falls along a City Mobility Plan 2035 corridor, and which could potentially cost taxpayers $2.5 billion.

This week, our City was hit with a whopper of a storm that strained our critical infrastructure and caused widespread flooding, mudslides, downed trees and powerlines, potholes, and other damage. Our waterways and sewer systems were overwhelmed with excessive garbage and debris, and the failure of the trash interceptor at Ballona Creek led to massive amounts of trash washing ashore.

These incidents are a reminder that investing in infrastructure to protect our coast and environment must remain a top priority.
LA County Winter Storm Damage Collection Survey
REVIEW AND COMPLETE THE DAMAGE COLLECTION SURVEY .

Following the recent storm, Los Angeles County declared a local emergency and initiated a Damage Collection Survey to assess infrastructure and private property damage. Your input through the survey will play a crucial role in recovery efforts and eligibility for disaster assistance programs.

Mar Vista Burglaries
It's only been a couple weeks since dozens of cars were vandalized and robbed in Playa del Rey and Westchester. And now, families in Mar Vista are reporting a significant uptick in residential burglaries.

LAPD Pacific Division takes these crimes very seriously and is partnering with Major Crimes Division and neighboring cities to apprehend suspects in these ongoing investigations. Even with these efforts, there are a few steps residents can take to help prevent theft crimes:
  • Close and lock your garage and all doors and windows, even when you're home and even if you're only leaving for a few minutes.
  • Keep your vehicles locked and do not leave valuables inside.
  • Invest in a home security and camera system.
  • Get involved with or start a neighborhood watch.
  • Don't post travel plans on social media and have a neighbor pick up your mail and packages when you're away.
  • Always report crimes and suspicious activity to LAPD!

Park's Pick
In this week's Park's Pick, we're thrilled to feature Beyond Vegan Eats, a recent addition to our local business community in Westchester. During my visit to the cafe, I got to meet Cameron Moore, who shared his inspiring journey of shedding 140lbs and creating a company dedicated to healthy eating and the healing power of food. In addition to fresh pressed juices, customized carry-out meals, and an array of hot vegan dishes for dine-in, Beyond Vegan Eats has something for everyone, whether you're vegan or not!
