Public safety continues to be a concern that is top of mind for stakeholders in Council District 12. This week, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division hosted its first-ever ‘State of Devonshire’ community forum, inviting residents to come learn more about how my office and the department are working hand-in-hand to address issues of crime. It was a pleasure and an honor to be able to share more about what we are doing to help reduce crime and my continued focus on ensuring residents feel safe in their neighborhoods.

I also joined parents from the Porter Ranch community to discuss the capacity issue being faced by the Porter Ranch Community School. As a former PTA Chair and longtime supporter of the PRCS, I have long been proud of my partnership with schools throughout the entire district and knew it was necessary to be a part of the process to hear the concerns and opinions of both parents and students.

Although I am glad that the discussion laid out what options are on the table, the current situation is urgent and untenable. I continue to stand with our educators, students, and parents and have committed funds so that students can stay enrolled at this gem of an educational institution that so many in our community love. If you’d like to learn more about the situation, you can listen to my interview with KFI News here.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

Update on Automated License Plate Readers

This week, the Los Angeles City Council approved my motion to begin the process of installing Automated License Plate Readers in locations throughout Council District 12. My office will continue to work with our city departments to ensure that we implement these cameras efficiently and that we do so in a way that maximizes our investment.

Overtime Funding for Local LAPD Divisions

This week I introduced a motion asking for additional overtime funding to be allocated to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AT DEVONSHIRE & BALBOA

Many of you may have noticed a project that has started taking form at the intersection of Devonshire St and Balboa Blvd. The Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Engineering have begun the process of widening Balboa Blvd to add an additional left turn lane in both the north and southbound directions. This project includes ADA access ramp upgrades and the addition of much needed street trees.

This project is tentatively scheduled to be completed towards the end of this year. We thank you for your patience and caution as crews work to make these improvements.
