As the Chair of the City’s Committee on Public Works, I had the distinct privilege of hosting elementary students from schools across the city for this year’s Engineers Week at City Hall! This amazing tradition exposes students to the STEM field and helps build our next generation of engineers.

Traditionally, students participate in an ‘egg drop’ challenge where they are tasked with figuring out how to drop an egg from up high without breaking the payload but due to the heavy rains, this challenge becomes infeasible. Instead, students were tasked with creating bridges made from paper, that had enough structural integrity that a Hot Wheel toy car was able to make it across. Needless to say, these little geniuses easily dispatched this challenge.

My office has continued working to address one of the district’s most problematic tent encampments at Devonshire and Balboa.

This location has remained an area of focus for my team, the LAPD Devonshire Division, LA Sanitation, and our outreach partners at Volunteers of America. This week, we were able to answer the demands of so many community members who have remained vocal about this location.

My office has consistently allocated resources to address this encampment and while the location remains passable, clean, and accessible, we will continue monitoring the situation and address needs as they arise.

Lastly, I want to recognize a great local business, Golden Hour Grooming in Granada Hills. I recently attended a business mixer hosted by the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce where I had the pleasure of meeting Jalon, the owner of Golden Hour Grooming. Jalon’s incredible story of how he went from sweeping up the shop to becoming the owner of the business is truly inspirational. I was delighted to stop by for a haircut and to show my support.

I am always proud to see entrepreneurs succeeding in our City. Seeing this black-owned business thriving in Granada Hills was, without a doubt, the highlight of my week.
Check them out!
