Welcome LAFD Deputy Chief Fligiel!
On Thursday, I was delighted to take LAFD Deputy Chief Phillip Fligiel, our new Operations West Bureau Chief, on a tour across the district. We trekked from LAX all the way to the top of Mandeville Canyon Road, with visits to the Ballona Wetlands, Venice Beach, Sawtelle, and the Pacific Palisades along the way.

Deputy Chief Fligiel is an LA native who grew up in the West San Fernando Valley. At age 15, he joined the Fire Explorer (cadet) program before being hired by the LAFD in 1992. During his 31 years with the department, Chief Fligiel has served as a firefighter, paramedic, engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief, and now as Deputy Chief.

His top priorities for West Bureau include wildfire mitigation and response, community engagement, and ensuring peak operational performance. Welcome to the Westside, Chief!
Congrats To Our CERT Grads!
Congratulations to all of our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) graduates who completed their seven-week course on emergency preparation and response! CERT members are trained by LAFD on small fire suppression, first aid and life-saving techniques, evacuation and search tactics, radio communications, and disaster intelligence collection. In a city prone to fires, floods, landslides, and earthquakes, being ready to support our first responders and community members during an emergency is critically important.

It was another busy week as we continued cleaning up damage from recent storms and removing abandoned RVs and vehicles from our neighborhoods.

Park's Pick

In this week's Park's Pick, we're excited to feature GoodPeople, a vibrant coffee shop and roastery nestled in the Sawtelle neighborhood. During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck and Dee Herrera, the dynamic duo behind this delightful establishment, and we shared laughs over their cleverly named drinks, like 'The Caffeine Queen' and 'The Dirty Chai Kwon Dow.'

At GoodPeople, every beverage is infused with quality and care and their expansive patio makes for a great place to sit and chat with friends. The food is amazing too, so come hungry!
Adopt-A-Pet

Meet Dallas, a sweetheart who shines in playgroups! While he may initially appear shy, Dallas quickly warms up, building trust and eagerly offering affection. A 58-pound, 3-year old sweetheart, Dallas is neutered and ready for adoption or fostering from our North Central Animal Services Center. If you're prepared to welcome a loving companion into your life, Dallas is ready for you, too! For more details, visit laanimalservices.com.
