The Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils is an independent organization that invites elected board members of Neighborhood Councils to come together and develop solutions that benefit communities in the Valley.

This week, the organization invited me to join them to discuss various topics of interest for members. This meeting touched on ways we can improve not only the Neighborhood Council system but various city services that directly impact the quality of life in our communities. With nearly 50 members present, it’s clear that the Valley is well-loved and in good hands.

I am always grateful for the opportunity to share my perspective with leaders in the Valley and I look forward to continued collaboration in our effort to make the San Fernando Valley better than ever.

Comprehensive Plastics Reduction Program

The City is seeking to implement a citywide Comprehensive Plastics Reduction Program. As a result, the City has released a Notice of Availability and Draft Program Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Program. The report analyzes and discloses the potential environmental effects of the proposed program, identifies ways to reduce significant environmental effects, and identifies feasible alternatives to avoid or minimize significant environmental effects.

The City will hold three separate virtual public meetings to provide an overview of the proposed program and environmental analysis to assist in developing comments on the report. To register for the public meetings, please visit https://laplasticsceqa.eventbrite.com/.

The City would like to receive your comments on the potential environmental effects of the proposed program. Your written comments and input will be accepted throughout a 45-day public review period, ending at 5 pm on April 26, 2024.

Everytable Free Home Delivered Meal Program

The City of Los Angeles is thrilled to announce the revival of its highly sought-after free home-delivered meal program for seniors. The Rapid Response Senior Meals Program is crafted with care and tailored exclusively for seniors residing in the City of Los Angeles who could benefit from additional food support. Participants will receive five free prepared meals per week delivered directly to their homes. Everytable is a partner in the program and individuals who sign up may choose to select Everytable meals.

To be eligible to receive this free meal program, you just have to:

• Reside in the City of Los Angeles

• Be age 60 or older

• Have a need for additional food support

Overnight Closure of Topanga Canyon Boulevard

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the closure of Topanga Canyon Boulevard (State Route 27) in the San Fernando Valley for bus pad construction. One lane in each direction will be closed Monday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting March 7. All lanes will reopen at 6:00 a.m. after each night.

The construction will impact the following intersections of Topanga Canyon Boulevard:

• Southbound Mayall Street

• Southbound Lassen Street

• Southbound Plummer Street

• Southbound Prairie Street

• Southbound Nordhoff Street

• Southbound Gresham Street

• Southbound Parthenia Street

• Southbound Chase Street

• Southbound Roscoe Boulevard

• Southbound Strathern Street

  
  

The work is part of a project to repave State Route 27 (SR-27) and upgrade curb ramps, pedestrian push buttons, and bus pads in the San Fernando Valley and through the unincorporated area of Topanga. The work zone spans more than 18 miles on SR-27 from Pacific Coast Highway to Devonshire Street in Chatsworth.

City of LA Legacy Business Program

The City of Los Angeles is proud to launch the Legacy Business Program, an ongoing initiative to celebrate and support the visibility and sustainability of long-standing Legacy Businesses with tangible benefits, including technical assistance, promotional support, and access to grants and loans.

A “Legacy Business” is defined as a business open to the public that has been in operation for 20 or more years within the same community and which meets three of the following four criteria:

• It contributes significantly to its community's history or identity.

• It sustains and cultivates distinctive cultural traditions or practices.

• The business is not franchised or affiliated with a national corporate chain.

• It provides vital goods and services in a language and manner that is culturally accessible to the community

The Legacy Business Program aims to foster economic empowerment by encouraging patronage of participating legacy businesses throughout Los Angeles. Key Highlights of the Legacy Business Program include access to grants & loans, technical assistance, and promotional activities.

Thanks to the LA28 Olympics and Paralympic Games commitment, the PlayLA Youth and Adaptive Youth Sports Program provides affordable and accessible sports programming to kids of all abilities through Los Angeles.
