On Tuesday, Council District 12 residents spoke and spoke loudly. I am honored and humbled to be re-elected as Councilmember of the 12th District.

As a resident of Council District 12 for over 40 years, it means everything to my family and I to have the support of the community that raised me.

Overwhelmingly, voters in Council District 12 made it clear that you want a representative who is keenly focused on increasing public safety, tackling the homelessness crisis, supporting local businesses, and improving the community’s overall quality of life.

You also made it clear that you want a representative who listens, understands the issues that matter to you, and most importantly, has put in the work alongside you to make this community what it is. I always say that Council District 12 would not be the special place it is without the many organizations and people who invest their talents, energy, and time into making our neighborhoods better for all. I see so many examples of this amazing community at work every single day, and I am so proud to represent you.

Putting the needs of our district first has been and always will be my guiding principle. I am humbled and grateful for the trust you have once again placed in me. I will continue to serve you faithfully as your Councilmember and work diligently each and every day for the betterment of our Council District 12 community.

On Wednesday, I welcomed Ken Craft and Rowan Vansleve from Hope the Mission to recognize their latest initiative to combat our region’s homelessness crisis.

Traveling 16 miles from Santa Monica to Downtown Los Angeles, Ken and Rowan visited the City Council as part of their 3,500-mile bike ride to Washington D.C. The duo’s initiative is simple, bring awareness to everything our city is doing to combat the homeless crisis but also make it clear that cities throughout Los Angeles County continue needing support from the federal government to successfully bring solutions to our region.

Hope the Mission has been an invaluable partner, working tirelessly alongside the city to make a meaningful difference. Their commitment to this cause, dedication to partnership, and relentless pursuit of innovative solutions exemplify the spirit of our city and our shared values of compassion and resilience.

Throughout the district, my office continues working diligently to address areas in the community that are facing difficult encampments.

This week my office was able to successfully conduct an outreach operation on Oso Ave that cleared a street that had been a source of concern for residents and business owners alike. We will always monitor our neighborhoods and address problematic encampments by offering the services and resources needed to get people off of our streets.

PORTER RANCH COMMUNITY SCHOOL CAPACITY ISSUE RESOLVED

This week, the Los Angeles Unified School District formally announced plans to address the capacity issues at the Porter Ranch Community School. This plan successfully meets the demands of passionate parents and ensures that students attending the school are able to remain in attendance and will not be forced to relocate to a different campus.

As a former PTA Chair and someone who has supported the Porter Ranch Community School since its inception, I know that this resolution is the preferred choice for so many in our community. I’m pleased to have shepherded the district toward what was clearly the most preferred and viable solution for parents and students in Porter Ranch.

I remain proud of my strong partnership with all of the schools located in Council District 12 and will always stand with our students, parents, and educators.
