This week, we approved an additional $1.4 million to help small businesses pay for their Al Fresco outdoor dining permits by subsidizing the entire permit cost, potentially eliminating more than $1,000 in fees for eligible businesses. Click here to learn more and apply.
We took action against retail theft and property crime by securing more than $15 million in state funding for the purchase of Automated License Plate Readers and technology that will help us respond to crime as it happens. This complements the motion I presented last week and it furthers our work to cut down on retail theft and property crime.
Our Sexual Assault Response Centers do important work assisting and examining survivors of sexual assault. While the City and County reimburse these centers for their work, it’s often not enough. This is why I introduced a motion this week to increase our City’s reimbursement rate, which follows a similar action by the County so that these centers can carry out exams quickly and stay afloat.
Our Los Angeles Police Department has only 2.3 sworn officers for every 1000 city residents. With our City covering just over 500 square miles, our officers need every tool available to them to adequately respond to emergencies and keep Angelenos safe. One of these vital tools is LAPD's air support division which provides important support to the work our officers do on the ground.
I was fortunate to be able to see the important role LAPD's air support division plays this week by joining them for a shift and seeing first-hand the real impact that they have on keeping our first responders informed on developing situations in order to keep Angelenos safe.
