Happy Easter to all who are celebrating in the One-Five and throughout all of Los Angeles. This time of year brings warmer weather (other than this weekend!), Spring flowers, and fun Easter traditions. From egg hunts, to baskets full of sweets, chocolate Easter bunnies, and delicious meals with loved ones, I hope you're surrounded by friends and family this weekend.
I’ve enjoyed being with you this past week for the egg hunts and family fun throughout the One-Five: at Rosecrans Park in Harbor Gateway; Toberman Center in San Pedro; Banning Park in Wilmington; and I’m looking forward to the upcoming celebrations next weekend at the 109th Street Recreation Center in Watts, and at the Harbor City Recreation Center.
For me, the coming of Spring and the Easter season serve as perfect opportunities to spend quality time with my family and reflect with gratitude, joy, and hope for new beginnings. Sending Easter blessings to you all throughout our five beautiful communities, and wishing you a reflective, happy holiday. |

REPAIR ZONES |

Now through April 7 community members in Harbor City-Harbor Gateway-Wilmington will be able to vote on which program proposals the City should fund for their community. Proposals were submitted by local nonprofit organizations in response to ideas generated within the community last fall. A voter guide and information about where to vote is available at repair.lacity.gov. Voting will also be available online and at other in-person events sponsored by the City. |

Postponed due to weather! This Saturday’s Spring Egg Hunt will now be April 6th from 10 AM - 2 PM. Join us and the Easter Bunny at the Harbor City Recreation Center. Along with the Egg Hunt, we’ll be celebrating Baseball Opening Day at 10:30 AM! |

NEW MAINLINE PIPING |

Last week LADWP installed new mainline piping on Vermont Ave. from PCH to 253rd St. This is the area where we had a main break a few months ago so we’re glad to see these new pipes being installed. |

GRAFFITI REMOVAL |

Thanks to the Gang Alternatives Program (GAP) for their work to remove graffiti near Normont Elementary School this week. We were able to address the issue just in time for school to return from Spring Break! You can also report graffiti removal requests by using the MyLA311 App, on the 311 website, or by calling 311. |

We did not let the rain damper the fun! Saturday was the Spring Egg Hunt at Rosecrans Rec Center in the Gateway. Thank you to the staff who adapted to moving the event indoors, and for having a great set up with arts and crafts and games for the kids! |

EECI KICK OFF CELEBRATION |

It was great to join Barbara Stanton and EECI to kickoff on Saturday and celebrate their new office in the Gateway! I look forward to seeing all the great work EECI does to provide training and support to entrepreneurs and young people throughout the One-Five. |

EAST SIDE BIKE RIDERS BIKE SAFETY EVENT |

It was wonderful to see that the East Side Bike Riders hosted their Biking is Life Bicycle Safety Education Training at Rosecrans Rec Center this past week. The class teaches young bike riders how to properly wear their safety equipment and provides them practice with riding bikes! |

INTERNATIONAL JUBILEE |

In 1973, the International Jubilee was held at Peck Park featuring dancers from a wide array of cultures. This year, Lorena Maese wanted to rekindle this 50 year old tradition bringing together different cultural dance groups and musical groups. Sunday was a beautiful display of the diversity of our city right in our own backyard. |

NEW SPEED HUMPS INSTALLED |
 |
New speed humps were installed on 8th street between Cabrillo and Gaffey and on Cabrillo between 7th and 8th street. These new speed humps will slow traffic around Cabrillo Elementary School and Mary Star of the Sea Elementary, creating safer walking zones for the school children. |

VISIT TO NATIVE PLANT NURSERY |

On Thursday I visited the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy native plant nursery. The nursery has been in operation for nearly 30 years and producing up to 90,000 plants annually, has provided all the native plants for the habitat restoration work at the White Point Nature Preserve (an LA City park), as well as the recent plantings in Peck Park. Plants are for sale at cost to private and commercial consumers alike. |

SIDEWALK REPAIR TO THE LIBRARY |

Yesterday the Bureau of Street Services began repairing the sidewalk on 9th and Gaffey St. Making this sidewalk ADA Accessible with ramps is part of a package of 7 repairs being made to libraries around the city of Los Angeles. |

MINI FIELD AT NICKERSON |

On Thursday we attended a mini field park opening at Nickerson Gardens. This park on Parmelee Ave. between E. 112th and E. 114th St. is a beautiful addition to this area, thank you to HACLA for your work in transforming this space for our community. |

FALLEN TREE REMOVED |
 |
This past week a tree fell and blocked a portion of 103rd St. We alerted the Bureau of Street Services’ Urban Forestry Division who removed the tree from the street so that traffic could continue to go through the area. They also made sure to access the state of the tree to avoid possible accidents for upcoming storms. |

SPANISH SOUTHEAST COMMUNITY POLICE ADVISORY BOARD |

We attended the Spanish Southeast Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) last Tuesday at St. Lawrence Brindisi. This meeting was filled with updates for our community and featured a special presentation by the Mayor’s Office on the MyLA311 App. The next meeting of Spanish Southeast C-PAB will take place on April 16 at St. Lawrence and the English Southeast C-PAB is every 4th Thursday of the month at Fire Station 64 - 10811 Main St. on Main at 108th St. |

WASHING OF THE FEET |

On Thursday I attended St. Peter and Paul and Holy Family Catholic Churchs’ Washing of the Feet at the Wilmington Town Square Park. On Holy Thursday throughout the world, Christians observe this act of service by washing one another’s feet as a demonstration of serving others in ways that we may consider beneath us. It was a beautiful service led by Father Claude Williams joined by Father Ruben of Holy Family Church and I was honored to be with members of St. Peter and Paul Parish, Holy Family Church, and the Wilmington community for this meaningful service. |

COACH QUEZADA MEMORIAL MURAL |

Jose “Coach” Quezada was a pillar in the Wilmington community. Taken from us far too soon, on Saturday I was honored to join his family and friends as we unveiled a memorial mural in memory of Coach. These murals, by Mike Tofoya, Miranda Villanueva, Ade Ogunmowo and Ms. Yellow, will be placed on the wall of the Wilmington Teen Center facing the Rec Center, a beautiful location for a great man who inspired and empowered so many young Wilmington youth. I also want to share my appreciation of Mike Herrera who commissioned these murals and who brought the community of Wilmington together to give back to the Quezada family during this incredibly difficult and painful time. |

2024 WISTERIA REGALE |

Saturday evening I joined the Friends of the Banning Museum for the 2024 Wisteria Regale, an annual event to support the Banning Museum and the presentation of Wisteria scholarships for Banning High students! The Harbor's history is rooted in the residence and museum of Phineas Banning, the Father of the Port of LA, and it's important we continue to cherish and maintain this space, a treasure of Wilmington and our story. |

We are happy to announce that a new Starbucks is coming to Wilmington! Last week, the city of Los Angeles approved the application to redevelop the property located at 215 - 219 West Pacific Coast Highway. This is a welcomed improvement to the neighborhood commercial corridor. |

Felices Pascuas a todos los que están celebrando el One-Five y en todo Los Ángeles. Esta época del año trae un clima más cálido (¡aparte de este fin de semana!), flores de primavera y divertidas tradiciones de Pascua. Desde búsqueda de huevos hasta canastas llenas de dulces, conejitos de Pascua de chocolate y deliciosas comidas con sus seres queridos, espero que esté rodeado de amigos y familiares este fin de semana.
Disfruté estar con ustedes la semana pasada para la búsqueda de huevos y la diversión familiar en todas las comunidades del One-Five: en Rosecrans Park en Harbor Gateway; Centro Toberman en San Pedro; Parque Banning en Wilmington; y espero con ansias las próximas celebraciones el próximo fin de semana en el Centro Recreativo de 109th Street en Watts y en el Centro Recreativo de Harbor City.
Para mí, la llegada de la primavera y la temporada de Pascua son oportunidades perfectas para pasar tiempo de calidad con mi familia y reflexionar con gratitud, alegría y esperanza por nuevos comienzos. La semana pasada, LADWP instaló una nueva tubería principal en Vermont Ave. desde PCH hasta 253rd St. Esta es el área donde tuvimos una rotura de la tubería principal hace unos meses, por lo que estamos contentos de ver la instalación acabada. |

Gracias al Programa de Alternativas a Pandillas (GAP) por su trabajo para eliminar el graffiti cerca de la Escuela Primaria Normont esta semana. ¡Pudimos abordar el problema justo a tiempo para que regresaran las clases después de las vacaciones de primavera! EAST SIDE BIKE RIDERS EVENTO DE SEGURIDAD EN BICICLETA |

Fue maravilloso ver que los ciclistas del East Side Bike Riders organizaron su capacitación educativa sobre seguridad en bicicletas Biking is Life en Rosecrans Rec la semana pasada. ¡La clase les enseñó a los jóvenes ciclistas cómo usar adecuadamente su equipo de seguridad y les brinda práctica para andar en bicicleta! |

JUBILEO INTERNACIONAL |

En 1973, se celebró el Jubileo Internacional en Peck Park con bailarines de una amplia gama de culturas. Este año, Lorena Maese ha querido revivir esta tradición de 50 años reuniendo diferentes formaciones culturales de danza y formaciones musicales. El domingo fue una hermosa muestra de la diversidad de nuestra ciudad justo en nuestro propio patio trasero. |

NUEVOS TOPES DE VELOCIDAD INSTALADOS |

Se instalaron nuevos topes en la calle 8 entre Cabrillo y Gaffey y en Cabrillo entre las calles 7 y 8. Estos nuevos topes reducirán el tráfico alrededor de la Escuela Primaria Cabrillo y la Escuela Primaria Mary Star of the Sea, creando zonas para caminar más seguras para los niños de la escuela. |

VISITA AL VIVERO DE PLANTAS NATIVAS |

El jueves visité el vivero de plantas nativas de Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. El vivero ha estado en funcionamiento durante casi 30 años, produciendo hasta 90.000 plantas al año, y ha proporcionado todas las plantas nativas para el trabajo de restauración del hábitat en White Point Nature Preserve (un parque de la ciudad de Los Ángeles), así como para el reciente plantaciones en Peck Park. Las plantas están a la venta al costo tanto para consumidores privados como comerciales. |

Ayer, la Oficina de Servicios Callejeros comenzó a reparar la banqueta en la calle 9 y Gaffey. Esta banqueta será accesible según la ADA con rampas es parte de un paquete de 7 reparaciones que se están realizando en las bibliotecas de la ciudad de Los Ángeles. |

MINI PARQUE EN NICKERSON |

El jueves asistimos a la inauguración de un mini parque de campo en Nickerson Gardens. Este parque está en Parmelee Ave. entre E. 112th y E. 114th St. es una hermosa adición a esta área, gracias a HACLA por su trabajo para transformar este espacio para nuestra comunidad. |

ÁRBOL CAÍDO REMOVIDO |
|
La semana pasada, un árbol cayó y bloqueó una parte de lal calle 103. Alertamos a la División de Silvicultura Urbana de la Oficina de Servicios Callejeros, quien retiró el árbol de la calle para que el tráfico pudiera continuar atravesando el área. También se aseguraron de acceder al estado del árbol para evitar posibles accidentes por próximas tormentas. |

CONSEJO ASESOR DE LA POLICÍA COMUNITARIA DEL SURESTE EN ESPANOL |
|
Asistimos el pasado martes a la Junta Asesora de Policía Comunitaria del Sureste en Español (C-PAB) en St. Lawrence Brindisi. Esta reunión estuvo llena de actualizaciones para nuestra comunidad y contó con una presentación especial de la Oficina del Alcalde sobre la aplicación MyLA311. La próxima reunión del C-PAB del Sureste en español se llevará a cabo el 16 de abril en St. Lawrence y el C-PAB del Sureste en inglés será cada cuarto jueves del mes en la Estación de Bomberos 64 - 10811 Main St. en Main en 108th St. |

LAVADO DE LOS PIES |

El jueves asistí al Lavado de Pies de la Iglesia Católica San Pedro y Pablo y de la Sagrada Familia en el parque Wilmington Town Square. El Jueves Santo en todo el mundo, los cristianos observan este acto de servicio lavándose los pies unos a otros como demostración de servir a los demás en formas que podemos considerar inferiores a nosotros. Fue un hermoso servicio dirigido por el Padre Claude Williams acompañado por el Padre Rubén de la Iglesia de la Sagrada Familia y tuve el honor de estar con miembros de la Parroquia St. Peter and Paul, la Iglesia de la Sagrada Familia y la comunidad de Wilmington en este significativo servicio. |

MURAL CONMEMORATIVO DEL COACH QUEZADA |

José “Coach” Quezada fue un pilar en la comunidad de Wilmington. Nos lo quitaron demasiado pronto, el sábado tuve el honor de unirme a su familia y amigos cuando presentamos un mural conmemorativo en memoria del entrenador. Estos murales, de Mike Tofoya, Miranda Villanueva, Ade Ogunmowo y Ms. Yellow, se colocarán en la pared del Wilmington Teen Center frente al Rec Center, un hermoso lugar para un gran hombre que inspiró y empoderó a tantos jóvenes de Wilmington. También quiero compartir mi agradecimiento a Mike Herrera, quien encargó estos murales y quien unió a la comunidad de Wilmington para retribuir a la familia Quezada durante este momento increíblemente difícil y doloroso. |

REGAL WISTERIA 2024 |

El sábado por la noche me uní a los Amigos del Museo Banning para el Wisteria Regal 2024, un evento anual para apoyar al Museo Banning y la presentación de becas Wisteria para estudiantes de Banning High. La historia del puerto tiene sus raíces en la residencia y museo de Phineas Banning, el padre del puerto de Los Ángeles, y es importante que sigamos apreciando y manteniendo este espacio, un tesoro de Wilmington y nuestra historia. |

¡Estamos felices de anunciar que un nuevo Starbucks llegará a Wilmington! La semana pasada, la ciudad de Los Ángeles aprobó la solicitud para construir la propiedad ubicada en 215 - 219 West Pacific Coast Highway. Esta es una mejora bienvenida para el corredor comercial del vecindario. |
