Community Plan Updates
CLICK HERE TO WATCH MY LATEST UPDATE ON THE DRAFT COMMUNITY PLANS
Following the Planning Department's release of the draft community plan update maps last summer, my office conducted dozens of listening sessions across CD11 to address concerns about zoning, densification, traffic, and loss of our single family neighborhoods.

We are now excited to share that our voices were heard and our feedback was incorporated into the most recent draft maps. These still aren't a done deal, so check out the new drafts and let us know if you have any further questions or input!
LAHSA Attacks City's No-Camping Restrictions
Los Angeles Municipal Code section 41.18 allows the City to regulate tent encampments in the public right of way around certain "sensitive use" sites, like schools, parks, daycares, libraries, and homeless shelters. As a limited time and place restriction, 41.18 simply helps protect our shared public spaces. [Please note, 41.18 does not cover RV encampments. Those are covered in my pending motion to regulate RV encampments around sensitive use sites].

Since taking office, we have enforced 41.18 around schools. And, as we've cleared major tent encampments through our housing interventions, we established new 41.18 zones to keep these areas safe and accessible for all residents.

At this week’s LAHSA Commission hearing, which has no jurisdiction or authority over local city ordinances, County Supervisor and LAHSA Chair Lindsey Horvath, took issue with 41.18, saying it was a “waste of resources.

I disagree and believe the real waste of resources is politicizing a tool that, in the 11th District, has been enthusiastically welcomed by residents and extremely effective at restoring access to our sensitive sites, all while moving hundreds of people indoors and preventing repopulation.

These attacks against balanced and reasonable street camping regulations will inevitably continue, so I want to personally thank the community members who took the time to tell the LAHSA Commission how 41.18 has helped their communities.

Securing Properties From Squatters

Squatters in vacant homes and construction sites are a persistent public nuisance across the City. In one recent incident in Del Rey, transients started a fire in a red-tagged vacant home that resulted in one fatality and and endangered an entire neighborhood.

Although the Department of Building & Safety has now barricaded the Del Rey properties, we have more work to do to ensure this does not happen again. If you are aware of trespassing or squatting in or around properties in your neighborhood, please immediately report it to LAPD, and also please email your field deputy so my office is aware of the problem.

Last Saturday, we partnered with LA Sanitation, StreetsLA and Urban Forestry to give away free mulch, which was made from the trees we recently trimmed in Brentwood and Sawtelle. Learn more about our City's free mulch program here.
Even better, our free tax preparation event helped dozens of families in West LA save thousands of dollars in tax liability!

Volunteers Needed For IPW 2024

The LA Travel and Convention Board is actively recruiting volunteers to welcome our international guests attending the International Partnership Week (IPW) global travel industry fair, taking place May 3-7. Volunteers can sign up for activities and shifts through the registration portal.

We are taking daily actions across CD11 to clear out RVs and clean up the messes they leave behind. Each one of these efforts bring relief to our neighborhoods and connect the homeless to resources and housing opportunities. We appreciate your support and patience as we work to deliver your #Better11.
