March 22, 2024

This past week marked the beginning of spring, and thus the celebration of Nowruz is in full swing! This celebration promotes peace and solidarity between generations, families, and communities. It encourages reconciliation and neighborliness and promotes friendship among people from different cultures and communities. I am honored to serve as Councilmember to a district that closely holds these values. To all who celebrate Nowruz, I hope the coming year brings you and your families joy, prosperity, and good health.

This year, the Making Movies That Matter Youth Short Film Festival has reached a new milestone with more than 35 schools participating in the program, free of charge. As arts programs are often the first to face budget cuts, I intend to provide this program as a way to keep the arts in schools. With the MMTM Youth Short Film Festival fast approaching, I met with teachers and school administrators involved in the program this week to discuss its progress. After hearing about the creative ideas of the students involved and the positive impact it has had on them, I am even more excited to see the amazing work these talented kids will produce for this year's festival.

My office continues to actively address community concerns throughout the district. This past week, we conducted an outreach operation on Darby Avenue and Parthenia Place, which led to the removal of five vehicles. Our top priority is to address encampments by providing the necessary services and resources to help individuals in need get off the streets. Our top priority is to address encampments by providing the necessary services and resources to help individuals in need get off the streets and ensure that our streets are safe and accessible for everyone.
