Over the last few months, my office has been keenly focused on addressing RV encampments throughout Council District 12. Through strong collaborative partnerships and planning, my office has been able to conduct multiple operations that have eliminated clusters of RVs within the district. These operations also provide necessary resources to those who are in need and willing to accept them.

Recently, we successfully removed multiple RVs near Lurline and Marilla, and Superior and Mason. We continue working to remove any remaining debris and offer resources to individuals in the area.

This week, CD12 staff was pleased to join the North Valley YMCA to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of PLAY. PLAY is a program designed to increase physical fitness in youth and diminish fears and stigmas associated with exercise. Kids who participate in the program engage in activities that focus on teamwork, support of one another, and it’s all done in an environment focused on fun, fellowship, and skill-building. Our team remains proud to be able to support partners like the YMCA who play a pivotal role in the development and well-being of kids throughout our community!

Lastly, this weekend marks the return of one of Chatsworth’s greatest traditions, ‘Day of the Horse’! Come on by this Sunday to immerse yourself in equestrian culture and learn more about the rich heritage and traditions that remain alive and well in Chatsworth. This event will feature vendors, food, and all sorts of equestrian-related activities. We hope to see you there!

Feedback on Topanga Canyon Blvd Safety Enhancements

Caltrans is proposing new bike lanes and other pedestrian and bicycle safety enhancements to Topanga Canyon Blvd between Mulholland and SR118. Caltrans believes these improvements will help members of the community feel safer walking and biking to destinations along the route. They are currently seeking feedback on different configurations under consideration as well as information on other features the community would like to see.

Caltrans staff will be available to answer questions and receive feedback in person at the Canoga Park Farmers Market at 7284 Owensmouth Ave on Saturday, April 6, from 9am - 2pm. An online survey is also available to fill out here.

Workforce Development with LADWP

LADWP recognizes the importance of a strong workforce to continue the work to build a stronger Los Angeles. As a jobs creator and employer, LADWP maintains a workforce of 11,000 and promotes economic development in the region by providing secure, well-paying civil service jobs. LADWP is also committed to creating paths to secure employment, especially for members of underserved communities, promoting STEM education that may lead to future employment at LADWP, while also investing in the leaders of the future. April 24th is Denim Day

Join people around the world in observance of the 25th anniversary of Denim Day. As the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history, Denim Day asks community members, elected officials, businesses, and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. Next Steps for Porter Ranch Resiliency Plan

Before the Porter Ranch Resilience Plan being developed by the CSUN Masters of Urban Planning students can be finalized, they need your help in determining the recommendations that should be adopted in the plan. Based on the feedback from the last survey and meeting, recommendations were developed. They are offering two ways to get your feedback so that you can help choose and fine-tune them.

1. Take the Resilience Survey between April 1st and April 10th (https://csun.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bwuyysIXJFTZvfg)

2. Join via an online Zoom meeting on April 8, 2024 from 7pm to 8pm (https://csun.zoom.us/j/81398055182?pwd=dnNyVkJ3QUFORmEvQWFZdzRGQlhqUT09).

Your feedback will be used to finalize the recommendations and the plan will be finalized in mid-May 2024.

Revised Closure Schedule of Topanga Canyon Boulevard

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has ONCE AGAIN RESCHEDULED the closure of Topanga Canyon Boulevard (State Route 27) in the San Fernando Valley for bus pad construction.

Portions of the southbound lane will be closed Monday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting April 15. The lane will reopen at 6:00 a.m. after each night.

The construction will impact the following intersections of Topanga Canyon Boulevard:

Southbound Mayall Street
Southbound Lassen Street
Southbound Plummer Street
Southbound Prairie Street
Southbound Nordhoff Street
Southbound Gresham Street
Southbound Parthenia Street
Southbound Chase Street
Southbound Roscoe Boulevard
Southbound Strathern Street

Closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.

Comprehensive Plastics Reduction Program

The City is seeking to implement a citywide Comprehensive Plastics Reduction Program. As a result, the City has released a Notice of Availability and Draft Program Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Program. The report analyzes and discloses the potential environmental effects of the proposed program, identifies ways to reduce significant environmental effects, and identifies feasible alternatives to avoid or minimize significant environmental effects.

The City will hold three separate virtual public meetings to provide an overview of the proposed program and environmental analysis to assist in developing comments on the report. To register for the public meetings, please visit https://laplasticsceqa.eventbrite.com/.

The City would like to receive your comments on the potential environmental effects of the proposed program. Your written comments and input will be accepted throughout a 45-day public review period, ending at 5 pm on April 26, 2024.

Everytable Free Home Delivered Meal Program

The City of Los Angeles is thrilled to announce the revival of its highly sought-after free home-delivered meal program for seniors. The Rapid Response Senior Meals Program is crafted with care and tailored exclusively for seniors residing in the City of Los Angeles who could benefit from additional food support. Participants will receive five free prepared meals per week delivered directly to their homes. Everytable is a partner in the program and individuals who sign up may choose to select Everytable meals.

To be eligible to receive this free meal program, you just have to:

Reside in the City of Los Angeles
Be age 60 or older
Have a need for additional food support

Free Tax Filing with Direct Filing

Direct File is a new IRS service that is helping people save time and money by filing their taxes online, for free, directly with the IRS! Non-Perishable Food Drive

LA Sanitation is collecting non-perishable food to donate to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, St. Francis Center, and Inside Safe participants, local organizations that provide services to Angelenos in need. Click here to see the list of accepted items and drop-off locations.

Bulky Item Drop-Off Events
