City budget hearings began this week at City Hall. With our City facing a huge deficit and tough decisions to make about where and how to spend our limited dollars, I spent time on the Council floor advocating to retain the essential resources that matter most to you. Thank you again to everyone who took time to complete our budget survey this year. Your feedback was really important!

Tourism is a key industry for our local economy, especially on the Westside of Los Angeles. Tourism provides over 500,000 local jobs, and sales and TOT taxes bring in hundreds of millions of dollars every year to our City's general fund, which pays for essential services like fire, police, and pothole repairs. While the tourism sector was hard hit during the pandemic, we are pleased to see crowds returning, especially to the world famous Venice Beach.

As Chair of our City's Trade, Travel & Tourism Committee, I am excited to implement our Tourism Master Plan, which seeks to both enhance visitor experiences and improve the quality of life for residents.

LAFD Drone Program
Did you know LAFD has an amazing drone program to help keep our communities safe? During emergency events, like the 2017 Skirball fire, drones collect aerial imagery and identify hot spots, which helps LAFD deploy necessary resources. Drones can also be used for brush inspections, hazardous materials incidents, confined space rescues, swift water rescues, and just about any other emergency situation to increase firefighter safety and situational awareness.

Thank you to Captain Thomas and the entire Unmanned Aerial System team for spending time at Rustic Canyon Park showcasing how these drones will be utilized to mitigate risks as we enter fire season.
If you live in a in high fire severity zone, make sure to check out LAFD's collection of informative articles covering brush clearance requirements, reporting hazards, and various other valuable resources.

We Love Meals On Wheels!
It was a pleasure to join Meals on Wheels delivering nutritious food in CD11! Since 1976, Meals on Wheels has been providing nutritious meals and friendship to individuals who are unable to shop or cook for themselves due to illness, disability, or advanced age. It's heartwarming to see how this program fosters connections and supports the well-being of vulnerable residents in our community.

Delivering A #Better11
It was another busy week addressing homelessness and conducting beautification projects across the Westside. Your #Better11 is on its way!
Delivering A #Better11
I have always believed that simple improvements can tremendously enhance community safety, and so do my staff. Several weeks ago, they documented where painted traffic lines were the most faded in several neighborhood intersections. Then, they escalated requests for new paint with our partners at the Department of Transportation. Here is a sample of some of these improvements, which will help drivers commute safely in these heavily-walked neighborhoods.

If you know of a faded traffic line in your neighborhood, please contact our team at (310) 568-8772. We're here to help to make a #Better11
This week we are spotlighting Burro, a charming lifestyle boutique on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, offering a unique selection of paper goods, candles, homeware, jewelry, and other items that make for great gifts. Owned and operated by Erinn Berkson since 1999, this Venice gem is a personal favorite and well worth a visit, just in time for Mother's Day!
