Recognizing Best Practices In Addressing Homelessness
It's great to see Mayor Bass building relationships and learning more about how other cities are addressing similar issues around homelessness, addiction, and public safety. With my own experience as an attorney working with cities across California, bringing best-practices to Los Angeles has been a priority for me since taking office.

Last fall, I went on my own fact-finding mission to San Francisco where I met with community leaders such as Tom Wolf, Supervisor Matt Dorsey, and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. We talked a lot about the similarities and differences in the issues we face and what is and isn't working to rebuild public safety. I also frequently meet with elected officials from our neighboring cities and regional partners like the Southern California Association of Governments and the California League of Cities because we won't solve homelessness in Los Angeles if we don't solve it statewide.

A Community Vigil For Sarah Alden
On Thursday evening, the community gathered on the Venice Canals to honor Sarah Alden, who died from her injuries following the horrific attacks on April 6. While this loss and grief cannot be reversed, it was beautiful to see the entire Venice community united in the fight for safety and justice. See more photos from this moving event on our Flickr page.

City Sewer Rates Are Going Up
The City of Los Angeles will restart Sewer Service Charge rate increases, which were paused in 2020 due to the pandemic, beginning in fall 2024. These hikes are crucial for improving the aging wastewater system to safeguard public health and the environment. Financial assistance is available for eligible households through the EZ-SAVE Program, and all customers can choose monthly billing with the Level-Pay Program.

Celebrating Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream's one-year anniversary in Venice was fantastic! Be sure to stop by and try their new summer flavors, like "Hot Summer Spins," the latest mind-melting collection with bold new twists. It was great to meet the store manager, Melvin, who has helped make Jeni's a delightful addition to the Westside, bringing joy and sweetness to our community!
