March's Newsletter!

Dear *|FNAME|*,

Wow, what a busy month we've month had, with trips to North and South Wales for whitewater kayaking and big swell on the sea it seems like we've not stopped!  We've made improvements to our website and also our social networking pages so be sure to check out twitter, youtube and facebook and let us know what you think.  If you fancy any of our events this month then please get in touch soon as places go very quickly these days.

Rock Hopping

The day was supposed to be Tide Races but when with a forecast of ten foot swell and force 7 winds we changed our plans and went rockhopping intstead.  We headed to Solva to shelter from the wind and found some great sets to play with including this one with Steve and Neil.  The set of the day though has to go Gareth, there's a full video here.

Wales Circumnavigation

Three of us are intending to complete a loop of pins on this map after Easter this year by paddling around Wales.  In September 2011 we were defeated by hurricanes, strong winds and deadlines.  We are raising money for the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre so please give generously.

South Wales

Myself and Steve B met up with Stuart and Eurion on their turf from some sea kayaking to the Holms.  Stuart wrote it up on his blog and our photos are here. The following day Neil and Mr T joined us for some coaching at the CIWW Centre; it was great to hear the guys say that the white water kayaking this winter has helped to improve their sea kayaking.

Next Month...

News from our March events (obviously!), Shelley answers your questions and a spotlight on one of our regulars!

Important...

April - The first two weeks are Easter School Holidays and we have our usual sea kayaking trips running throughout the period.  After this, Mike will leave for the trip around Wales so Tommy will be running everything.  It's all set up so that you can contact us as usual and will notice no difference except his voice instead of ours!

A great weekend of "thrills and spills" was spent practising whitewater skills on the Dee.  Day one was on an easy section, developing and improving skills such as ferrygliding and breaking in.  Day Two saw us on the "Classic Dee", resulting in a few swims on Serpents Tail.  View the video here to bring back those memories!

Blog goes Live

You may have noticed our web presence has been improving?  Well, it has been the winter afterall!  We now have a blog; it won't be updated every week but we do intend to write up our bigger trips on there.  Last years big three were Expedtion Tiger Spray, the Irish Sea Crossing and Sea Kayaks on the Canals.
Where's Waldo Image

Where in Pembrokeshire?

The Canadian version of "Where's Wally?" is "Where's Waldo?"  Shelley learned why no one could ever find Waldo, he's buried in Pembrokeshire!  Send in a photo of you by the 20th April standing in the same spot as Shelley and we'll put you into a draw for a free Mayberry Kayaking t-shirt!

We're organising the first West Wales Sea Kayak Meet this summer.  On 14th and 15th July, one hundred sea kayakers from across the UK will be descending on Newport, Pembrokeshire, with all profits from the event going to the Lifeboat and the Wales Air Ambulance.  If you're a sea kayaker that doesn't require coaching then you can attend, if not then why not jump onto one or two of our courses before booking.
