Before the unanimous vote by the City Council on Wednesday approving my motion to create a citywide program to restrict RV encampments around sensitive sites, I explained why this program was so important. And, on Friday, we built on that work by instructing the Department of Transportation to resume enforcement, including impound, of vehicles in violation of key parking restrictions. These are small steps and will take time to implement, but they are essential to restore balance and public safety in our neighborhoods.

Checking In With Brentwood

I've attended many neighborhood council meetings across the Westside over the last year and a half, but it was great to be back with friends and constituents this week at the Brentwood Community Council where we discussed legislative priorities, the City budget, Olympics preparation, and updates on homelessness and public safety. Hearing directly from constituents who are subject matter experts in their own local neighborhoods is essential so that we can prioritize the issues that are most important to you.

Requests For Help To Governor Newsom

Immediately following Governor Newsom's directive to remove encampments from State-owned properties, I sent a letter to the Governor asking for his assistance in clearing encampments along PCH and Lincoln Boulevard. I spoke to the Governor earlier this week about partnering with CD11 to address local encampments, and we identified additional locations, including Dockweiler State Park and various freeway embankments and underpasses. We remain hopeful that he will team up, but in the interim, we will continue utilizing all of our tools and resources to prioritize health, safety, and accessibility on the Westside.

For this week's Park's Pick, I'm excited to highlight New York Bagel & Deli in the heart of Mar Vista. Of course, the traditional bagels with cream cheese are excellent, but the pizza bagel sandwiches are my personal favorite! What makes this place such a great success is the staff dedication and excellent customer service. Our small businesses provide local jobs, neighborhood stability, and places for community to gather, so let's make sure they continue to thrive on the Westside!
