We were thrilled to welcome the Board of Airport Commissioners to our Westchester field office to help kick off their series of Citywide community engagement meetings. We appreciated hearing updates from BOAC President Karim Webb and LAWA CEO John Ackerman about LAX’s pivotal role as an economic engine, capital improvements, sustainability initiatives, and preparations for for the 2026 World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We also heard wide-ranging community feedback about traffic and noice mitigation, density and development concerns, and a desire for genuine engagement between the airport and community.

Racing For A Cause At Sharsheret’s West Coast Dash
It was a pleasure to join Sharsheret’s Third Annual West Coast Dash at Dockweiler Beach to support their vital work bringing together survivors, families, and advocates of breast and ovarian cancer. In addition to featuring a 5K, 10K, Family Fun Race, and festival, CD11 honored Rabbi Aimee Irshay Gerace and Dr. Joshua Cohen for their lasting impact on women's health. The day reminded us of the strength and resilience in our community’s fight against cancer.
Recognizing Our Summer Interns And Future Leaders
This summer, we welcomed a dynamic group of interns to our Westchester and City Hall offices, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for their hard work and enthusiasm. They gained invaluable insights into the legislative process while interacting directly with our constituents, focusing on how to provide assistance and navigate the structure of our city government. If you know anyone in high school or starting college who is interested in interning with CD11, please email jacob.burman@lacity.org.
Since taking office, we've worked hard to restore safety and accessibility at Venice Beach, our City's top destination. From improving our park and visitor amenities and restoring family-friendly programming and events to helping new businesses open, Venice Beach is thriving and back in the news for all the right reasons! A huge thank you to Inside SoCal, Venice's very own Brian Averill, and Wes Whitsell of Mama's Boy at Wintson House for spotlighting some of the great things our most famous beach community has to offer!
Beach Clean Up Opportunities
Dockweiler
Every week, your CD11 Beautification Team and our City Departments are working all over the Westside to make improvements, big and small. If an area in your neighborhood needs special attention, please contact our Westchester District Office for assistance.
In response to Governor Newsom's order to state agencies to clear encampments on State properties, CD11 requested assistance from the Governor to address multiple encampments on State property within CD11. While your CD11 team is actively collaborating with Caltrans and other State partners, we're also getting to work.
While Dockweiler State Beach continues to be an active focus of ours, this week City resources and enforcement were deployed in the Pacific Palisades on PCH from the City border of Coastline Drive to Porto Marina Way. We are also actively engaged with other regional partners to address the remaining encampments outside of CD11's borders so that we can address these operations from impacting our neighborhoods.
This week's Park's Pick goes to our friends at Baby Blues BBQ in Venice! With Memphis-style ribs, Texas-style brisket, and the best banana pudding in town, you can't go wrong with the down-home cooking and cozy local vibes. After experiencing a fire and lengthy shutdown, we are so excited to have Baby Blues back open and thriving in Venice!
This weekend, September 21-22, LA Animal Services is offering reduced adoption fees to encourage the community to open their hearts to a pet. Adoption fees are $51 for dogs (plus $20 license), $75 for puppies, $12.50 for cats, and $25 for kittens. All pets come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, along with additional perks like a Petco discount flyer, a VCA Healthy Start Certificate for veterinary care, and free dog training classes for new dog adopters. If you can't adopt, please consider fostering a pet to help save lives!
