Hey CD11,

It was another busy week! From meeting with State leaders in Sacramento to Public Safety Committee approving my efforts to improve safety at our public libraries and to inspect and repair all fire hydrants Citywide, we continue to push our #Better11 agenda forward.

Judge Carter's long-anticipated LAHSA audit revealed widespread financial mismanagement, lack of accountability, and little success actually housing anyone, which comes as a surprise to exactly no one who has been paying attention. There are many conversations happening about how to take back control of homeless spending to drive better outcomes, because as we head into a worsening fiscal crisis, we can’t keep wasting good money on bad results.

With more stormy weather expected, please continue to avoid the burn area. Traffic on PCH and access into the Palisades remain slow, so please plan ahead and make sure to have a valid pass when entering the area. With the restoration of utilities, we anticipate more people will start returning to neighborhoods that are still in-tact, which will add additional pressure to the congestion. We are working with our State, County, and City partners to address all of these logistic and operational concerns as the recovery process continues.

Your CD11 team also spent time in Mandeville Canyon this week to ensure the public right of way was clear. We are aware of mud in one area, which we are actively investigating. Garden Land Trailhead, an area which has been the source of slide problems in the past, is closed.

The public comment period for LADWP’s Scattergood Green Hydrogen-Ready Modernization Project will close on March 14, 2025, so be sure to get your comments in. Learn more about the project and submit any comments here.

Have a good weekend, and let my team and I know if we can be of assistance!

Here are this week's community updates!

  • RV Removals And Encampment Interventions - We successfully removed several RVs that have been long-standing problems in CD11 and tackled encampments in Westchester, West LA, and Venice. All of these had been long-standing problems, and while we still have a long way to go, we are glad these impacted communities are now safer and more accessible.
  • Air Purifier Distribution – We distributed free air purifiers to residents to improve indoor air quality. If you’d like to receive one, please register here.
  • Streamlining Sunset Traffic – our office secured traffic control officers at several intersections along Brentwood's Sunset Boulevard. We know it's a mess out there and we appreciate your patience!
  • Stay connected for more updates!

⚾️ Celebrating Opening Day In CD11  –  I started off by throwing the first pitch for the Pacific Palisades Baseball Association, which launched the season opener and their first event since the fire at their temporary new home at Cheviot Hills Recreation Center. I also joined families from Mar Vista and Venice at North Venice Little League’s season kickoff ceremony, where we celebrated the joy of baseball and the resilience of our neighborhoods as they unite for another season of youth sports.

Tax Prep Assistance Arrives At Mar Vista Gardens – Last weekend, we hosted our first Tax Prep & Resource Fair at Mar Vista Gardens, marking our third fair overall. A huge thanks to the Community Investment for Families Department, HACLA, and the Mar Vista Gardens' Residents Council for their support. We’re committed to bringing essential resources directly to the community and look forward to growing this partnership – Watch the recap from Channel 35 here

Mar Vista Virtual Town Hall –  please RSVP for our CD11 Virtual Mar Vista Town Hall on Thursday, March 13th from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. The meeting link will be shared upon confirmation and made available the week of the event. We'll give an update on our work and take questions from the community. "See" you there!

FEMA Extends Wildfire Assistance Deadline – If you were affected by the January wildfires in Los Angeles County, there’s still time to get the help you need – but the deadline is Monday, March 31. FEMA assistance and SBA low-interest disaster loans can provide crucial support for recovery. Apply today at DisasterAssistance.gov or visit a local Disaster Recovery Center for in-person help.

We Love LA –  LA Tourism’s “We Love LA" campaign invites visitors to experience the city’s diverse attractions and highlights the crucial role of tourism in economic recovery. The campaign showcases LA’s vibrant culture as we prepare to host global events like the FIFA World Cup 26, Super Bowl LXI in 2027, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Register for Neighborhood Council Elections – Time is running out to register for the West Area Neighborhood Council elections – make sure you sign up for a vote-by-mail ballot before Monday, March 10th! Whether you live, work, own property, or study in Del Rey, Mar Vista, Playa, Venice, or Westchester, you should register every election cycle to make your voice heard in shaping your community.
