Database Update & Printed Directory
Franklin Baptist Church family,
Recently a few people have asked about having printed church directories again, so we thought it was a good opportunity to ask you to update your details, and to explain the situation about sharing information.
As you may be aware, we are no longer able to print church directories like we did in the past. Why has this changed?
1. The privacy act means that it is illegal for churches to share personal information without permission.
2. This permission must be given annually.
3. In 2017 we had a problem with inappropriate behaviour toward vulnerable people, as a direct result of having a printed directory.
4. Other situations emerged where people have received unwanted contact because of the printed directory.
5. We have now shifted our database information to a different system.
How does it work now?
We have Church Center (the church app) that enables FBC family to connect with each other.
1. Individuals are able to update and personalise their own information.
2. Individuals can choose to “opt in” to this sharing of personal information, and manage this themselves.
3. Individuals can also choose not to share their information.
4. Access to view the Church Center directory is controlled.
What do I need to do?
Download Church Center, login and update your details.
After installing Church Center, later that night you will receive an email granting you access to all the other individuals who have shared their info with FBC church family.

What happens for those who cannot access technology?
We want to provide a phone list for people who cannot access Church Center (this list can only include those who explicitly give their permission to share their information).
To have your families phone numbers included in this printed phone list, please complete and submit the printed phone list permission form.
A list of these names and phone numbers will be printed for those who cannot access Church Center. Addresses will not be included in this information.
How will those people know if they cannot read this email?
We will have a printed copy of this communication available at the church info desk, along with a manual form for those who cannot access Church Center.
Those individuals will be able to give permission to share their information.
How do I find someone’s details?
You can go to the “Directory” tab in Church Center.
Search or scroll through the list of FBC church family.
If you cannot find someone, it means they have chosen not to share their info, or they have not responded to this kind of request.
Either way, the church is unable to share this information.
If you do not have access to the Directory tab in Church Center, please send us an email.
Another suggestion is to talk to that person when you see them at church. Or maybe even offer to buy them a coffee 😊
When you meet, remember to get their phone number, and add it to your contact list.
