Green Built Guide: October 2022

Registration Open for Fall Continuing-Ed Classes to Meet NCLBGC Requirements

We have finalized our fall schedule of continuing-education courses that fulfill the six elective hours required annually by North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors, as well as being eligible for credit through certain other trade organizations.

We will offer virtual afternoon classes via Zoom from 2 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday in November with the exception of the holiday week of Thanksgiving, with discounts for members and free equitable access tickets for members of BIPOC or LGBTQ communities.

All classes offer approved hours for general contractors among others, and also count toward our own Regenerative Professional Accreditation credential that acknowledges a deep, evolving competency in advanced green-building best practices.

This schedule includes two brand new courses never offered before, Energy Star 3.1 for Contractors and Practical Passive Solar Design, the former of which is being offered twice to accommodate high anticipated interest, as well as one returning class, Edible and Native Plants of WNC, back by popular demand.

***** For the two-hour mandatory course required for GCs, we are referring to TrainingFolks, which has an asynchronous e-learning option for the class. You can receive a $10 discount off each course you purchase when you use Green Built Alliance’s coupon code — NCGC0109 — at checkout. Visit this website to register.

Thanks for Your Support and Attendance at Our Fall Networking and Fundraising Events
After two years of limited opportunities to gather as a community, we were thrilled to reunite with many of you at two of our annual events, which returned this fall for the first time since 2019.

Last month, we had a great group join us at our annual member appreciation and networking party held Wednesday, Sept. 7 at French Broad Outfitters' Hominy Creek riverside location. Guests were the first to receive the 2022 issue of our Green Building Directory magazine, and enjoyed a free dinner from Gypsy Queen, music from Chikomo Marimba, and a silent auction to support us. Browse photos below or click here to spot friends in the full album.

Then last weekend, we celebrated our eighth annual CiderFest NC fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 8 at a new venue in our members at Olivette Community and Farm's riverside park. Watch the video below for a taste of our perfect fall day in the great company of 1,600 guests.

Later This Month: Climate Adaptive Design Symposium

The Asheville section of the American Institute of Architects continues its annual Where Building Science Meets Climate Science series later this month.

The symposium begins with an evening presentation on Oct. 27, and continues in a full-day program Oct. 28 with lunch. Continuing-education credit hours are available for certain groups.
