Coweta Beekeepers Association Monthly Newsletter
Hello, my fellow beekeepers!
Time has flown by, and it's November already! I wanted to give thanks to all of you who have made this year so fun. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into and was quite nervous, to be transparent, but it has been a great experience being with such a wonderful group of beekeepers. 😊Thank you to my officers and board members, Corey, Andy, Marilyn, Pam, Bobby, Steve, Phil, Dora, Ron, Kara, Newt, and Debbie, for guiding me through my first year. Thank you for making our events happen for our members that bring such value to our association. Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

Greetings from the Treasurer
The membership renewal period has started and will continue through the end of the year. Membership renewal is only 15.00 whether you renew at the meeting or download the application from the website (even though it says 20.00).
Members who do not renew by December 31st will be dropped from the membership list.
Please bring the Treasurer cash or a check for 15.00 to the regular meeting, and your member information can be verified on the current roster. Should your contact information have changed, you will be asked to fill out a new application form, but the cost remains 15.00.
If you can’t attend the meetings, you can download an application from the website, fill it out, and mail it along with your check for 15.00 to the address on the application.
After December 31st, all applications will be considered new members, and the cost will be 20.00 as per current CBA By-Laws.
This is a monumental task, and I respectfully request everyone’s assistance in updating the Coweta Beekeeper Assn. membership list.
Thank you,
Andy Anderson, Treasurer

Let your bees rest for about eleven weeks.
By Steve Page
November 9, 2022
A frost on October 20 reduced nectar and pollen production. Since the frost, Camelias have started to blossom, providing nectar and pollen during the winter. Elaeagnus will bloom during a warm spell in late December or early January and provide pollen; maples will bloom in January if there is a warm spell.
Camelia

Elaeagnus

The weather since October 20 has been warm and dry, with highs in the 80s last weekend. Colder weather arrives this weekend, which will end syrup feeding. Remove any feeders and clean and store them.
Thirty pounds of honey should sustain a colony during winter and early spring. I mark “winter” on the cover with a Sharpe signifying the colony has a shallow super of honey on top of the deep plus more honey in the deep.
If a colony has less than 30 pounds of honey, you can still feed during cold weather using granulated sugar and the mountain camp method.
At the January meeting, I’ll explain how I inspect and manage my colonies starting in late January, preparing them for the main nectar flow in April.
