Dutch elm disease spreading

Trappers are on the hunt for these little critters in the north of our district. The plan is to try and stop the spread of Dutch elm disease down from Auckland.

About 70 traps are being placed on roadsides in an east-west line from Waitakaruru to Port Waikato.

The Elm Bark Beetle carries the disease - the extent of their presence will determine the course of action we need to take. Read more.

Are you prepared?

If a natural disaster strikes you need at least a three-day supply of water. That's three litres per person, per day for drinking water and basic hygiene.

BUT you don't need to purchase bottles from the supermarket! you can prepare your own containers of water in soft-drink bottles, fill plastic ice cream containers with water and keep them in the freezer and more.

What do you think of our libraries?
