Green Built Guide: November 2022

GIVINGTUESDAY IS ONLY 1 WEEK AWAY!

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

Help us spread the word of Green Built Alliance's mission on social media using the hashtag #GivingTuesday and Share the Facebook Event Page with your friends!

Below are three quick ways you can contribute to the work we are doing in Western North Carolina today, tomorrow and all year round.

1. Donate to support Green Built Alliance's work in our community. Contribute on the donate page of our website and help our nonprofit continue the momentum we've built over the past two decades.

2. Become a member or renew your membership today! Whether your membership is active, lapsed or nonexistent (so far!), we’re always grateful for new and returning members who value the work we do and marketing exposure we offer to our network of engaged green-building professionals. Visit the membership page of our website to review options and perks!

3. Volunteer to weatherize low-income households in Asheville & Buncombe County with the Energy Savers NetworkHelp us lower the energy cost burden of limited-income families while reducing energy consumption countywide in the fight against climate change.

This year we are focusing our fundraising efforts from GivingTuesday on our Energy Savers Network program as we expand our scope of free services offered to keep vulnerable homes warm this winter. We are grateful for all of the ways you support our nonprofit and give back to our community. Thanks for helping Green Built Alliance!

Neighbor to Neighbor Solar Installs Begin

The first two Neighbor to Neighbor Solar installations have been completed! We're so excited to share more about the installation process and chat with the homeowners in the coming weeks. Thank you to Sugar Hollow Solar for the photos and awesome installation work. These installs were funded by the Buncombe County Office of Sustainability.

Neighbor to Neighbor Solar launched in 2021 and exists to provide no-cost solar energy systems to low-income Buncombe County residents with a focus on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) households. This program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. Installations will be completed by Asheville-based Sugar Hollow Solar. See qualifying info here.

Fond Farewell to Departing Staff Member
The past month has marked the departure of our nonprofit's staff member, Green Built Homes Program Manager Leigha Dickens.

After spending several years prior on our Board of Directors, Leigha came on staff last spring to guide our Green Built Homes program into a new season of growth. She also was instrumental in coordinating future projects for our Appalachian Offsets program and kick started our Green Built Homes V3 Multifamily Checklist (Rev 1).
We are grateful for the effort and energy Leigha invested in Green Built Alliance, and excited to see what she does next with her gifts. Stay tuned to next month's newsletter to meet our new staff member who will help grow our programs in the future.
