Good news for Elizabeth Street protected lanes and Walmer Street Bridge southern land bridge

Thank you to everyone who contacted councillors as detailed in our April newsletter to get Elizabeth Street protected lanes made permanent at Yarra Councils meeting on 18 April, read more at 'Council resolves to make Elizabeth St protected bike lane permanent'

The good news appears continue with news that Salta plans to commence work on the southern land approach at Walmer St Bridge and hopefully construction will be completed by December 2023, making it some 18 months since the bridge closed.

If you actually observe work commencing near the Park House we'd like to know as no ones seen anything start, yet.

In long-term news, mentioned in link above, 'The City of Yarra and City of Boroondara continue to advocate for a new fit-for-purpose mid span bridge at Walmer Street to compliment the newly constructed approaches and to be funded by the Victorian Government to better meet the needs of cyclists and pedestrian now and into the future'

Update on Yarra 30km trial

Yarra Council Budget feedback - closes this Friday 19 May

The draft budget 2023/24, includes details for focus on Strategic Cycling Corridors, New Deal for Schools and Strategic Transport has moderate budget increase.

Streets Alive Yarra response to the draft budget makes mention of these elements and calls for greater
budget allocation for Yarra to reach it's actual goals.
