Turning The Tide: Crime Rates Decline

Crime on the Westside continues to be top of mind for many of you, and with two homicides this week in CD11, it is clear that we have a lot of work to do.

Fortunately, there are encouraging signs. According to data recently released by the LAPD, there has been a steady decline in crime in our district since the start of the year:

As highlighted in this news segment by KCAL, crime has already plunged by 50% in the oceanfront area.
I would like to personally thank our friends at LAPD and LA Park Rangers for their partnership and focusing resources ensuring Venice Beach is safe and accessible for our members of the public.
As your Councilwoman, ensuring your safety continues to be my utmost priority. I recognize that a lot of work still needs to be done and that specific regions within our district need additional resources and focus. My team and I are fully committed to meeting these needs.
Cracking Down On Van Lords
My office is also firmly committed to addressing 'van lords' who rent unregulated RVs to the unhoused. Such practices exploit the vulnerabilities of our homeless community, contribute to parking scarcity, and create considerable safety risks. I've introduced a motion to regulate the sale or lease of RVs on our public streets. As brought to light by media outlets including an in depth report on ABC, while this will not solve vehicular homelessness, it’s a reasonable tool to ensure public safety.

CARE+ Cleanups
Our CARE+ cleanups are another way we strive to create and maintain a clean and safe community. These cleanups are much more extensive than regular spot cleanings and provide outreach to the unhoused community and aim to establish a clean and secure environment for everyone. Here's a look at progress in our CARE+ operations as well as our Ocean Front Walk cleanups from the week of May 22nd.
Public Safety Fair
Mark your calendars for our Public Safety Fair on June 10th at Simon Meadow in Pacific Palisades. Bring friends and family to meet experts from community organizations and city departments and learn how to keep yourself safe in emergency situations.
Jewish American Heritage Month
I was honored to join my colleagues and Jewish community leaders during May in celebrating Jewish-American heritage. At City Hall, we unveiled the "Being Deborah" exhibit, which highlights trailblazing Jewish women who made significant contributions to our city. I am proud to stand with our Jewish community in CD11!
LGBT+ Heritage Month: Pride Across Los Angeles
On June 1, we kicked off “Pride Across Los Angeles” to celebrate LGBT Heritage Month. This is an opportunity for our city to celebrate the diverse identities, histories, and contributions of our LGBT community and a chance for us to stand together in unity, pride, and love across Los Angeles.
Honoring Sharon Browning
This week, I had the honor of naming Sharon Browning as a Pioneer Woman of the Year. Sharon has shown steadfast dedication in tackling the issue of homelessness. Her contributions through the Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness have been instrumental in providing local unhoused people with the resources they need.

Park’s Picks

We are honoring the Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness (PPTFH) as this week's Park's Pick. The PPTFH, formed in 2014 by concerned residents, has been instrumental in addressing the escalating homelessness crisis at the beach. Each year, the PPTFH interacts with more than 600 newly homeless individuals. They have engaged with hundreds of unhoused people and helped nearly 200 find pathways off the street.

Adopt-A-Pet
Introducing Misha, a delightful 4-year-old boy who loves to dash around the play yard and has a sweet spot for treats. Weighing 63 pounds, Misha is ready for a new home and is available for adoption or fostering at our North Central Center.
