Inside Safe at the Chatsworth Metrolink Station

I want to share with all of you that through a partnership that included my office, Mayor Karen Bass, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, and all of our respective partners and agencies, we were able to conduct a successful Inside Safe Operation at the Chatsworth Metrolink Station.

Leading up to the start of the operation on Tuesday, June 13, and over the course of two days, outreach workers from LAHSA, LA Family Housing, and Hope the Mission worked with individuals who were encamped and were able to successfully place well over 40 individuals in interim housing.

I'd like to take a moment to share my appreciation for all of the organizations, agencies, and individuals who worked to make this operation a success. This was the result of many months of preparation and coordination between the City and County and our partnership was key in successfully executing this operation.

This type of coordination is important to overcome any jurisdictional challenges we may face and make real progress on the homelessness crisis. We know that providing a roof is one step, but just as critical is making sure that individuals have consistent access to the mental health, substance use or other supportive services that they need. This is why working closely with the County is especially important.

I look forward to a continued partnership with the County and Supervisor Horvath, and Mayor Bass, as we work to bring real solutions to the homelessness crisis to our communities, and to expand Inside Safe to additional locations in Council District 12.

Homeless Connect Day

Homeless Connect Day gathers service providers, including those focused on mental health and substance use treatment, free meals, free haircuts, and agencies that help individuals get on the path to obtain housing and stay housed. As the first Homeless Connect Day held since the start of the pandemic, bringing together as many services as possible under one roof was especially critical.
