July 7, 2023

As the City enters the new fiscal year, I want to share with you three important Council actions focused on maintaining and improving the quality of life in our district.

Living in a community that is heavily impacted by rising temperatures and susceptible to wildfires, I allocated more funding for weed abatement services in Council District 12, coordinated by my office in partnership with West Valley Alliance (WVA). With the historic rainfall our region saw at the beginning of 2023, this funding will allow for the deployment of not one, but two dedicated teams this year. The additional funding will help address the increased weed abatement needs throughout the district while also allowing WVA to continue providing their prompt graffiti removal services.

Additionally, I also introduced a motion to transfer $170,000 to the Los Angeles Police Department to fund additional overtime police services within Council District 12, as follows:
  • Devonshire Division: $90,000
  • Topanga Division: $30,000
  • Valley Traffic Division: $50,000
Lastly, the Council voted on recommendations from the Los Angeles Housing Department, one of which granted approval to the department to participate as a co-applicant with service providers in the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development's Homekey 3.0 Program. This program has been instrumental in helping address the homelessness crisis, and this round of funding aims to bring necessary resources to communities that have historically lacked them. Among the properties being considered for funding and acquisition is the Motel 6 at 15711 Roscoe Blvd.

As always, I look forward to continuing the important work that will improve our community and the City of Los Angeles as a whole.
