Bracing For A Heatwave
After a long stretch of cool weather, a heat wave is impacting parts of our city, bringing high temperatures and intense heat. I want to take a moment to share some important tips to help you, your family, and your neighbors stay safe during this hot spell.
  • Stay Hydrated 💧: It's important to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay properly hydrated.
  • Seek Air-Conditioned Environments ❄️: Whenever possible, find refuge indoors in air-conditioned rooms to minimize exposure to the scorching heat.
  • Dress Appropriately 👕☀️: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and don't forget to apply sunscreen with a high SPF to shield your skin from the sun's harmful rays.
  • Be Fire Conscious 🔥: Given the elevated fire danger in the region, it's crucial to be vigilant and avoid any activities or materials that could potentially spark a fire. The Los Angeles Fire Department's website has tools and information regarding wildfires.
  • Check on Vulnerable Individuals 🤝: Take the time to reach out to vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, young children, or those with chronic health conditions, to ensure they are coping well with the heat and offer any assistance they may need.

It's also important to keep an eye out for these symptoms:
If you are looking for a place to cool down and escape the sun, remember that all Los Angeles City libraries double as cooling centers.
Beach Report Card
Thousands of swimmers will head to the ocean to beat the heat this weekend. Before you head out, be sure to check the water quality. Our friends at Heal the Bay have developed a free beach tool that ensures the well-being of you and your loved ones. Click here to learn more.
Heal the Bay July Nothin’ But Sand Beach Cleanup
You can help keep the beach plastic-free for the summer at Heal the Bay’s Nothin’ But Sand beach cleanup. The cleanup is today, Saturday, July 15, at Will Rogers State Beach - Tower 7 from 10 AM- 12 PM. Click here for more information.
Staying Active This Summer
Now that summer is in full swing, it's the perfect time to check out the many activities our City provides. Whether you're looking to cool off with a swim in the city pool or expand your horizons at our local libraries, there are a lot of options. I recently stopped by the Westchester Loyola Village Branch Library to learn about their summer programs like toddler storytime, chinese caligraphy, and watercolor painting and self-care to name a few.
Here’s a list of all libraries located in the 11th District.
I also stopped by at the Westchester Pool where they have an incredible array of activities for families and community members like swimming lessons, lap swims, and aquatics programs.
Other public pools on the Westside:
Mar Vista Recreation Center
Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center
And, we can't overlook the incredible opportunities at the Westchester Senior Center. From a lunch program to fun hobbies and games sessions, arts and crafts, and even educational programs, there's something for everyone. I had the honor of talking with recreation coordinator, Christina Lovett, to learn more.

Park's Pick
This week, I'm thrilled to showcase a hidden gem in our neighborhood: The Golden Bull. This place truly captures the essence of a throwback supper club, offering a blend of delicious American Standard cuisine and an impressive selection of signature cocktails. The ambiance alone makes it a destination worth visiting!
